    ... apparently

    https://www.pro-tools-expert.com/pr...om-poll-suggest-we-all-have-too-many-plug-ins

I find this interesting because I was just talking about scaling down recently in this thread: https://audiosex.pro/threads/if-you-could-only-choose-one-developer-suite.38922/

I just checked and I have around 350 plugins on my hard drive, of which I probably use around 25% of regularly. Granted, the majority of the plugins installed on my system come with developer bundles which I prefer installing for the sake of convenience rather than installing each plugin individually.

How many plugins do you have installed and how many do you actually use?

Since I started using Acustica Audio plugins, my installed plugins count has scaled down A LOT.

Add to that Lexicon PCM Reverbs, Soundtoys and Fabfilter packs and a couple of plugins from Waves and I'm more than set.

Based on Relativity one might as well ask: "Do I have too many plugins, or just too few DAWs?" :chilling:

Way too many but some need to keep for old projects editing and I forget which ones I need to keep. Every once in a while I try to see what I can ditch or consolidate mostly to save space, but also to have fewer choices. I forget about 80 percent of what I have and even when I see the name I don't know what it does half the time. A lot of the plugs just end up being useful for an inspiration pot potpourri grab bag.

i had far too many on my old system, since i upgraded to win 10 i got it down to the essentials, what synths do i use, what fx plugs do i use, no good being a collector and dl everything thats is up here if you have no use for it, you just clog up ur pc, i only install x64 vsti`s and leave the rest alone, the only x86 plugins i use is nexus bridged with j bridge, keep ur pc clean and resist temptation to just dl because you can, also you will find that you learn the vst plugs you have much better, my go to synths are spire, diva, dune 2, nexus, lush 101, sylenth and massive, if you cant make music with them then you cant make music.

I just did a short *.dll search in my plugin folder. Anything wrong with 417? And I didn't even try the other 4/5. :hahaha:

I completely agree about it for music purpose.

But when you make post and sound effects for movies/games/etc... it's quite a hunt for plugins.
Especially for games, the more plugins the better pallette of sounds i can explore.

I believe I'm addicted to plugins that's why I'm not so good on production. Too much = less productive.:dunno:

I have waaay too many on the desktop but have been doing some wet work, slicing it down, down and still further down. The good news is that I will be not installing hardly anything at all on the i7 laptop my bro-in-law just gave me for taking care of his old deaf and blind dog as well as his poor, freaked out and insane abused before he got him dog. I will force myself to use it only to record my many songs which have never been documented, just a guitar and my voice with one omni mic positioned just right. The laptop is super quiet with just the one SSD and so should be great not to have a pesky noise floor. Now only if the desktop doesn't freak out when I try to reconnect the Babyface after I nicely disconnect..."Oh wooouldn't that be love ely".

As I searched through my stack of external hard drives, I only found 206 reverb plugs. BUT, I can't get enough reverb. It always needs more. I've got a fever.......and the only prescription is more reverb.

For the sake of creativity, there are never too many tools! I find pleasure in making music using different tools all the time!

then again, its a matter of character types
some people will thrive having choices, others will suffer.
specially people with concentration difficulties/attention problems will suffer of having to many "choices"

I don't add but replace. Downside of this is when you want to open old projects.
There is not one Brand that offers everything, so nowadays:
    - around 10 synths from different brands
    - T-RackS
    - Soundtoys
    - A lot of (too many) very specific other tools

I don't count but i keep minimalise the number of them everyday, that's one of the main goals. And i hate myself knowing i could just use one synth, and one of each tool type. But you know how we are.
