Ok, so I had some time to kill so I created a wavetable file out of one of my favourite Wavestation series wave, resx001-resx032.

The end result is a wave file for you to stick into your wavetable synth. I use Animoog and Live's Wavetable and it works fine for those, though I'm understanding that some synths use a different WT length. These are 1024 samples per wave. Let me know if you run into any issues.

Background: the WS, as good as it is, does not have a resonant filter. But clever clogs had a wavetable series that simulated it instead, the result is a weird sounding sample-n-holdish thing when modulated. I thought it would be fun to stick that series into a modern wavetable synth, and here we are.

I might do more of these, especially if people are into them. There's the inharm-series and the VS-waves at least. Lemme know.

*edit:* Works fine in Vital as well, just tried. Try this for size: drag and drop the wav file to Osc1. Click on the 2D button once on the wave display bottom left-hand corner to see what the wave is.

Then go to "Matrix" view and do this: Source = "Mod Wheel", Amount set to maximum, Destination = "Osc 1 Wave Frame". Now you can twiddle the mod wheel to scan through the wavetable, though it's more fun to experiment from there on.

Here's me dicking about with said WT. It's Ableton's Wavetable fed into a Memory Lane delay pedal, nothing else.

Ok, I had some spare time again so I did Wavestations Inharm-series and Pulse series as well.

The first is, well, inharmonic but inherently usable and the pulse one is basically a PWM pulse wave but it has this oddness to it. Try them out!

Cool, i will try these. If you have more spare, would be cool if you could do more.

This started as a personal project, but hey, why not share? There's still the VS waves and Formant waves that I'll do anyways so I'll post them when I'm done.

A note: the Prophet VS had a superficially similar layout, the vector joystick and all. Then the Wavestation had some VS people working on it, and they used a lot of waves from VS. These are properly weird so that's where I'm shooting for next.

Ok, I think I'm done for now, here are the rest I did.

Formant is a sweep of various formants (duh) and gives odd vocal-y tones, kind of like a robotic vowel filter.

OB is various resonant waves sampled from Oberheim synth, though I don't know which. Still a nice sample'n'hold stuff can be gotten from it.

Table 13 is apparently from the PPG wave, not sure. Where ever it is from it does bizarre harmonics and odd tones. Very fun to screw around with.

VS are waveforms from the Prophet VS and I fail to describe what the hell is going on with these. Prepare for really weird digital tones.

    Have fun!

Super cool concept, keep it on man! It's awesome that finally we could use wavestation wavetables without the troublesome programming inside wavestation (not so troublesome but I can't get my head around the saving system and the "change one performance and it will be changed in all the other ones using it" behaviour), Korg might have solved the issue with V2.0 but nope.

Yeah, the WS can be a bother to get one's head around. I've used one for years and years so I'm used to it, but it still can catch me off-guard.

Korg also might have made it cleaner and better in the VSTi version, but it still has the same idiosyncrasies as the hardware.

I made an album in '95 when I started putting my studio together, with just using Wavestation SR [mostly pads], Akai S950 [mostly drums], and Oberheim Matrix-6 [mostly bass]. It turned up pretty great sounding. Interesting thing is the most useful waves I liked the best from Wavestation were some of you posted here: VS, OB, Res and Formant waves.

Thanks a lot man for doing this! They will definitely come very useful with all these wavetable synths we have nowadays.

    Cheers!

Yeah, I agree that those wave series worked best with the wave sequencing concept, but I have to say I'm really enjoying these with a wavetable synth. Big up for you programming the SR, I always found that ridiculously hard whereas EX and AD were easier going.

    Ok folks, a quick question.

I've now started creating patches on Live's Wavetable, but my question is how to effectively share them? Same goes for Vital.

I'd like to have a single archive/pack to share w/ the waves included and an easy way for people to import them.

Ok, let's try, here's a simple patch for Live's Wavetable. Use mod wheel for the formants. Do dick about with the LFOs and maybe assign a controller for the filter.

I make patches in my head, so I'm not that bothered with the poor and hard to navigate user interface like SR's or Matrix-6's, but there is one serious drawback to that - you can't really experiment much that easily. :/ However, imagining sounds in my head and creating them also did something good to me: now I can create whatever sound I want rather quickly. Still, just randomly fiddling with the knobs and faders is unbeatable! d= ;)
