Hello new friends,

despite reading the manual and even watching a lame Groove3 tutorial on this device; I cant seem to understand what the Rate-S / Fade On-Off parameters do on Waves SSL Bus Compressor.

Can someone give me an explanation and maybe even an example of how they've used it?

The buss compressor is in fact called "master compressor" it should be one among the last devices before your mix goes to a master tape, including fades, the autofade feature is what it says : it just rise the output volume over the selected period of time. Select a time, press Fade "on" the volume will rise from -inf till OdB, press fade off again, and it's gonna go down again. Just an old school manual volume envelope.
imho it's here more for hardware emulation accuracy than any actual use in a modern workflow.

 

Basically, it automatically adds a fade out to your material. In my opinion, leave it off and automate your own fade-out in your DAW of choice.
