Hi! Is there an audio software that can covert a sample-based instrument or a .wav/.aif file into a VST and/or AU plugin instrument? I thought I saw something like this a while ago, but not sure . . .

Forgive me if my questions is not clear . . . not a sampler, but software that can take a sampler instrument or .wav/.aif (loops, one-shotes, etc.) and convert it into it's own VST/AU plugin.

most samples make an instrument by simply drag and drop an audio file :dunno:
Some will do this with multi labeled audio.
Do you understand what is a script? :excl:

    @ Tommyzai,

Maybe here you can find something similar at what you're looking for...

You can even 'customize' (with other Pictures) the GUI of your finished Plugin Version.

    'The Samples Editor'

    'Maizesoft Maize Sampler'

But as its name suggests : it's a 'Sampler', however, it's far less complicated than some other more 'Professional' ones, as can be 'Kontakt', 'HALion,' 'EXS24',...
With it you can, for instance, create your own 'VST/AU' Plugins which include all your desired stuff : 'One-Shots', 'Loops',... *yes*

I don't follow! Please explain. I realize I can drag and drop an audio file into just about anything, but I would like to create a self-contained plugin from a sampled instrument or audio file. For example, I would like to convert PLUTONIC LAB 65 Ludwig Super Classic drum kit into a plugin . . . . open up my DAW and use it like any other plugin . . . not as a Kontakt instrument. It seems the Maize Sample Player might be what I was thinking of . . . is there any other software like it? I know I can create a Gig file and play with Soundlib's G-player . . . looking to create more of a plugin that stands on it own.

    @ Tommyzai,

    I think so ! *yes*

In this case, use 'Maize Sampler', and simply 'Import', 'Map', and apply all the other necessary Settings as desired/needed to your Audio stuff ('One Shots', 'Loops',... ).
In the above provided Image : 'The Samples Editor', you can have a look at the 'Mapping' of each of the imported Samples, as well as the several Settings applied for each one (on the right side). *yes*

For other Programs where you can 'Import' Samples ('One Shots', 'Loops',... ), you can also find : 'SynthEdit' and 'SynthMaker', which both allow you to 'output' (create) a 'VST Plugin' Version, but you'll need some knowledge (or at least practice) to first combine all the Elements to be able to do that, that's the reason of my first suggestion, where you only need to 'Import' the desired stuff to be converted afterwards in a 'Plugin' Version. *yes*

If you are on a mac EXS is the best choice with less cpu.
There are good tutorials for it in our neighbor site.
G-player never was stable for me, so...
Do you understand that the good libs are a hard work?
Image sampling and editing multisamples with different velocities, start point, end point, normalize and so on. ITS INSANE WORK!
But why you donot want to use kontakt?
Samples of Ludwig there are plenty :dunno:

If I follow your question correctly, you might be better suited to stick with something like Kontakt and simply save the library as a favorite for quick access in your DAW. I use Logic Pro X for my composition and would agree that the process of "loading an instance of Kontakt >search for a specific library> wait for library to load" is a little bit of a chore, but saving MIDI channel strip settings allows you to save specific instances of Kontakt (or whatever sampler you're using) for quick loading in the future. Hopefully I understood your inquiry and this helps!

Many thanks for the thoughts and suggestions. My hope is to take a few of my sample libraries like my favorite vintage drum kit, and create plugin. Maize might do it, but it seems I would be trading Kontakt for Maize. Still, might be worth checking out. I'm just trying to simplify, speed up, and streamline the whole process . . . allowing me to create without the life being sucked out along the way. ;-)
