    Hi everyone,

I'm just writing to warn you all to be very careful with the latest Bias FX Desktop version (V.R) posted on the sister site.

One of their presets almost blew off my speakers and eardrums yesterday. I'm not joking at all. My ears are still ringing.

It's really absurd that they don't have an inbuilt protection against this sort of thing.

One of the first things I do when I open my DAW is to place a brickwall limiter on the mixbus. However, this time I was testing the standalone version, so yeah, this happened.

This really pisses me off, because I'm already 38 and I'm extremely careful to preserve my hearing.

    So, just be careful.

    R.

I was so scared that I didn't have the time to investigate...I just closed the damn thing as fast as I could...

EDIT: Just opened this moth******r with my speakers turned off. If I'm not mistaken, it's a BASS preset called AL CISNEROS (not sure, though).

But be extra careful: If there's one like this, there might be others.

Do you mean to say that it was producing sound with no input?
    Or... ?
Well, I had not downloaded but i am now.
I am not passing up a chance to test this now that i have been warned. :speaker:
Ohh - did not realize it requires an account someplace.
    Ah well... uninstalled.

    Dude i am with you.

Shit like that happened to me as well, not with Bias but another similar Software.
I had shock and ringing ears for days too and i was pissed because one of my Monitor Speakers was blown up.
An overdosed presets was causing that.
Usually i have my volume low but at this one specific cause not..

I hate when such things happen.

Yeah me too. I was like lets try this out and see if it is better than the Overloud's similar version, then it asks to create an account, oh well uninstall that then.

sorry to hear it, and thanks for the heads up. this stuff is not a joke, which is also why i've been critical of fabfilter's copy protection which emits a loud noise burst.

and having a limiter on the master prevents this from happening?
how can you make sure the limiter is not interfering with your mix decisions, and preventing you from spotting other distortion?

0dBFS is still 0dBFS (which in itself is a "limiter"). Just apply proper gain-staging and you'll usually be fine.
How loud are you tracking things (dBSPL) and how much headroom do you have on the channels and master?

    Hey guys,

I was just noodling with my bass and cycling through presets.

I was using the standalone version, so, no DAW involved.

Input and output levels properly set on the software itself.

So, nothing unusual on my side...

I've been playing around with amp sims since the first Amplitube came out, and nothing like this ever happened...

    Just keep your heads up.
