I got a new computer system and I am wanting to make it a hackintosh. These are my specs:
    RME Fireface 400
CPU Intel Core i7-2600K Quad-Core Processor 3.4 Ghz 8 MB Cache LGA 110)
Video EVGA 512MB 9800GTX+ (I do plan on upgrading this to either a GTX660 or GTX680 next month).
PSU Corsair Enthusiast Series TX 850 Watt ATX/EPS Modular 80
I already have Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit installed.
Corsair Carbide Series Black 300R Mid-Tower Computer Case
    Plextor 716A CD/DVD-Burner
Motherboard Gigabyte Intel GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 with F12 BIOS (there is an UEFI bios update. Should I use that one instead?)
    Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3 1280)

I wanted to use the mobo that is listed on the Kakewalk site, but that didn't have enough usb ports. The one I have is on the list of mobo's that work.

I am totally new to this. I have found a lot of different versions of OS X. Which version of OS X do I wan't to run. I know that there are many versions. I know that frequently OS X drops support for things software and features, so I am looking for something that be able to use the firewire port as that is what I am using for sound. You people are the smartest people in the world, so that is why I have come to you. I have pro-tools 9 for the mac but I would like to use other mastering programs, I currently use Samplitude and Sequoia for mastering on the PC. So what is the best way to go with this? Like 10.7 or 10.8? And any hints on how make it work maybe without using the Kakewalk software... Is there something better than Kakewalk?

    Thanks for the help!
    El

    Hoi! ElDudarino

My advise to you is http://www.tonymacx86.com/home.php especially if you are new to this. It needs more than just the Hardware, It needs TIME.
Watch out for a tool called "Multibieast" , then you also need a "dsdt" file for your motherboard, you will find Installation guides etc... everything you need there.
You need to register on the website to get on the forum but it's free anyway and you receive help there.
Trust me, this website will be your companion for a while and in future if you really want to build a Hackintosh.

But i can say to you clearly the link above is the ultimate Place you are looking for.

By the way, your components looks good, it should work easily once you good into this.

    Good luck!

    cheers

Kakewalk is the best thing for a gigabyte owner.
Go for shure to Montain Lion.
If you really need some old plugs go to 10.6.8.
Aditionals kexts after intalation are easy to find.
In my long experience with osx ntsf disks are problematic using 2 diferents OS. I use only osx but with parallels I use windows. No windows boot will save you from many problems.
Backup, backup, backup and use Logic too. :mates:

Can I download an image of Mountain Lion from a torrent site, or do I have purchase the real version? The only tricky thing is that I only have 1 friend who uses a Mac. Does she have to have the same version of OS X that I am trying to install onto the thumb drive?

Please support Apple by buying the OS X if you do a Hackintosh, most do that. I mean it's a great OS and not expensive at all. Other way, yes you can download a Copy of Mountain Lion from the net.
As i said http://www.tonymacx86.com/home.php is where you should ask now the questions.
4 Years of Hackintosh experience, i can't be wrong. sorry.

    cheers

You will need the "dsdt" to get your motherboard working. And you will need "Multibeast" for installing some .kext like: GPU (Graphic driver), Ethernet, Mouse & Keyboard etc..
Take a look at http://www.tonymacx86.com/home.php for more info.

    hope this helps

    cheers

by the way: a much love to Rio de Janeiro!

It is going to be next week before I can start. Should I do the UEFI bios update because it says I don't need the "dsdt" file?

where did you read that you don't need the dsdt file?

I don't have UEFI on my board i have a older one so i can't tell you about that.
But i recommend you go to the website (forum) type in "GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 " in the search box and see what other users experience are.
Important is that you download the correct DSDT file that mach with your current bios version number. so take care.
In meantime you can download your original Mac Audio Driver for your Interface here: http://www.rme-audio.de/en_downloads.php?page=content/downloads/en_downloads_driver&subpage=content/downloads/en_downloads_driver_fireface
Then you can simple install it when you have setup your mackintosh.

Go the TonyMac and Multiibeast route. If you are not prepared to buy a retail copy of Mountain Lion then you can download the disc image of ML but you will have to use an older version of unibeast. Plenty of videos all over youtube as how to install. Your motherboard and memory are well supported but you will need to check if your graphics card is OK on TonyMac. There are workarounds but it might just be easier to get a supported card and as your doing audio it would not need to be an expensive one
    good luck

Currently I prefer the installation method called "myHack" on Conti´s Page.
    myHack Guide
That´s a good point to start a hackintosh project and it´s easy to use.
    Give it a try.
Also have a look at insanelymac OSX86 community, where the Open Source OSX86 community gives you a big knowledgebase. :mates:

Btw, tonymacx86.com is a comercial spin-off. This Site is associated with Amazon/NewEgg and some other affiliated programs from commercial companies.
Don´t support him with donations! :dont:

MyHack is very efficient and does it all for you but you still have to have the hardware that the the MyHack boot installer supports. TonyMac is not necessarily sponsored by Amazon or NewEgg - he merely gives you links to where you can buy the supported hardware most readily at the lowest price. Myself I dont like the way Unibeast forces you to get the retail MacOSX but I suppose he's trying to placate Apple so doing. I think that running MacOSX on a Hackintiosh is contravening the terms of the license whether you buy the retail OS or download the disc image. BTW I am currently running three Hackintoshes with Mountain Lion and Apple can go and take a running jump

    Absolutly.

The license clearly states that you can only install osx on an Apple branded computer.
