    Hey there Studio One users.
I gave Studio one today another try and wanted to record/make a song from start to finish.

I run very quickly into a problem. Is it really (still) not possible to pan stereo outs in a VSTI (superior Drummer 3) hard left and right and route them to a mono instrument track? This is really confusing me. I can not believe s1 is version 5 and you can not do that. I am sure I miss something.

I don't want my kick mics to take 3 (6) of my stereo out tracks.
Normally I record everything in reaper and for mixing I switch to cakewalk or Studio one.
In reaper I have a preset for my drums and route mono to mono. So my kicks (3) and the hi-hat (1) (= 4) "mics", take 2 stereo outs. In S1 this takes 4 stereo outs for the 4 mono "mics" ? Really? So I only have 16 Outs?
My go-to recording SD3 preset has up to 35 mono/stereo mics! I do not need them all but 16 is by far not enough for my workflow.

Here is a little gif of what I do in reaper.
There must be something similar in S1.

    Thanks for the answers

most DAW type of programs do not allow this with tracks, and with instruments it is even more taboo.

most DAW type of programs also not allow to make mono subgroups.

as a result, instruments can not "do mono" the same way many effects can.

if you mostly want to use synths with 1 output and then insert a bunch of mono effects on these channels (or have any other good reason to mix in mono), you might want to look into other type of VST hosts.

    That's a bummer.

I do not know what you mean by most daws. All daws I use have at least 32 mono outs selectable. I can not believe S1 can not do this. 16 Stereo outs! How can somebody work with that limitation! :winker:

The routing is not as comfortable as in reaper, but cakewalk can, cubase can (dedicated mode in SD3) and Samplitude can do 32 mono outs too if I remember correct.

Every new version of S1 I run into a no-go for me. Maybe next version of S1 will be a complete useable package for me. :dunno:
Back to recording in good old reaper than.
