If all these are , or seems , out of tune, it maybe your piano which is out of tune..

There are a few reasons it might sound out of tune to you. Many synth patches will have tuning variations, 'thickening' details such as detuned oscillators or LFO - pitch effects. Some patches include exta harmonics or partial chords which always sound weird if you don't write with them. If they are emulatee analogue synths they will also have global tuning parameters (not everyone works at A=440hz and there are plenty of other situations where everyone might be 'out.'

    Stretch tuning or relative tuning.
Because a piano has to work with stringed, orchestral instruments.
Can also stretch-tune an EP as well.
Yes, yet this above is the most obvious reason.

    Edit:
    Nope. Wrong direction.
    Oly was closer.
Actually we could think that all the rest are out of tune with the chosen tuning of the piano. With all its strings for sympathetic resonance.

Good to see all 3 mods here on this thread.

even Pianoteq is out of tune, unless you buy the Standard or The Pro .. while surprisingly Air Mini Grand is almost in perfect tune ..

either the soundcard or i don't know ... but honestly as now i am writing the post, it looks like the pianoteq changed slightly even though it still few cents out of tune, but it's better than before i guess

If this was so obvious, then why did I find off-topic comments from two members here?

many people also do not think of the note the filter is resonating at and its relationship to the played notes

Not relevant to the actual reason though.

    Another possibility :
Sometimes it is just your modwheel that is not at 0 position.
or a defective modwheel ( had to turn off "program changes" on my old ESQ-1 because it was sending +-10 random signal )
    And another possibility :
just because the sound designer didn't tune it. a lot of 3rd party soundbanks have this problem. (sylenth-massive)

Whhhhat!? lol  Interesting you got it in '88, so long after the release.
    Oooh. Never even seen that!
Did you know it was Eric Leed's brother, Alan, that leaked it to Germany for the original vinyl bootleg we all had? haha
We should talk about this in PM. It's very interesting how P leaked his stuff over the years! I have all that is out there.

I know we talked about this, but here it is for others:
So yeah, due to the standard tuning of a concert piano, we have to tune our guitars relative to the piano, was what I was implying.
Also, we can tune a guitar to itself or not. This is called relative tuning.
With piano, the problem arises that they stretch the octaves above and below the temperament region.
They are tuned to the 4th partial as opposed to the 2nd.
This is usually with wire-stringed instruments, but can also be done with an electric piano too.
I think some EP libs (possibly like the Scarbee EP 88s I mentioned to you before) give you the option of standard/relative or stretched now.

The fact you encountered this between piano and synths is common.
We are just lucky if the dev tuned either the synth patch or the piano samples correctly!
It's always been a strange one, I admit!

Thank you for the Best Answer! And hopefully this above explains it better.
As an instrumental musician and keyboard player for nearly 40 years, this is keys/piano 101.
Yet it relates to all instruments that we play with, so I did find it strange that this doesn't seem commonly known.

    Hey!
I just got hold of NI's Noire piano to try it out.
It actually has tuning options of Stretched and Equal.
Which then made me re-check what I've always called "relative tuning"!
In a way, the process sort of sounds the same as equal tuning, but the fact it is a different term may mean I know even less about it than I thought I did!
    Just saying!
Maybe relative tuning can only be for guitar.

And midi-man is right; all real instruments are a bit out. Often with both themselves and others. "The nature of the BEAST!" haha. I thought music was a nice fluffy bunny.
I found a re-make of a guitar fret board that showed how the frets should be in an ideal world.
Like, the first fret is straight until the B and E strings, and then bent higher!
    Very interesting.
