    I`m thinking of using less vst`s, my machine seems to slow down and could go faster, my decision is to let go of some of them.

    OMNESPHERE = ALTERNATIVE ??
    KONTAKT = (guitar - saxophone- electronic keys - piano- drums-trumpet) ALTERNATIVE ??

    even though many of these VST`s sound good I`m sure there are many other software on the market that sound as good but not too popular.
    Any advice ?
    I could buy a new mac but I don't have £3,000 pounds to spear

    The answer is: use instruments built into the DAW, they are the best :rofl:

    a pretty intricate question to answer and your question is very loose, not specific at all. Kontakt? what, the player, a certain library?so the answers could vary a lot depending on the system, daw etc. for a reasonably modern machine neither of those should be a huge problem

    if it is a problem, you will have to establish a way to be able to cope, to commit, and to plan ahead, and suppress the randomness of your playing.

    now, if you cant even use some of these vsts and get choked, then there is nothing that can help you, you need a better cpu.

    It's not about using fewer plugins, but fewer instances of them in your projects.

    Maybe spend "only" 1000£ on a PC,if you can...You could have a decent computer with 1000£.

    If you keep your current computer,you have a lot of samplers on the market,but not really sure they will eat less cpu.

    There are lots of really cool freeware vst that don't uses much cpu power for example I really love the unknown synth vsti best place to look for free vst effects & synths is a really cool website called dontcrack http://dontcrack.com/ this way you can redesign your studio for free it only features freeware it isn't a ware site check it out

    You can find unknown synth and other gems on this website

    The thing is, you are asking for replacement for Omnisphere and Kontakt.

    If you for whatever reason actually need complicated multi layered granular synth sounds or Kontakt libraries hyper realistic multi gb sample patches, then there is really no way around it. No matter the software, that's going to eat resources.

    Neither of those two are particularly hoggish for what they do under the hood.

    Now, talking about preset shit there are some software that offer you all kinds of bread & butter sounds without choking your system. For example Xpand!2.

    Pro musicians in the 90's would have killed for those sounds. Now, whether they are good enough for you I don't know (but the answer is that of course they are because you are asking random people for an alternative to omnisphere and kontakt).

    The right answer is - to use older plugins. There is much dummy loads in newer plugins to make consumers buy new better cpus - maybe they do sound a little better but lets say for 20% better sound they pump 200% more cpu demand most of which is for dummies. But so many people cannot achieve anything in music and cannot make enjoyable music anyway - they want dummy loads, to justify buying new hardware and bragging about it. They sometimes mention '1000 tracks playing simultaneously without glitches' ???!!!

    Hi man, download jbridge, bridge plugins who are angry with your cpu: if you use 64 bit, just bridge to 64 bit, and use the performance mode, in the settings of your bridged plugin

    buy the hardware, I do, ex. tc. electronic m3000, and it even sounds better than vst, and many of them are even a barging

    Xpand, sylenth, Vanguard, true piano, realguitar are all pretty low on CPU in my opinion.

    However, kontakt and omnisphere have nice fx functions, so you’ll need more vst effects.

    sorry to tell you this, but those are difficult tools to replace. i have never known a synth that does what omnisphere does, but if you like omnisphere for a particular reason then you might be able to replace it, but you will probably find yourself limited. with great power comes great power consumption.
    kontakt is a little different. imo it can be replaced with no loss, but the libraries available for it are vast and powerful. if you lose kontakt you will lose those libraries too (unless you put a LOT of work into converting them).

    maybe you could just add some less CPU hungry tools to the collection and use them where possible?
    another alternative (a scary one) is to just delete them and make do without them. you will probably find that you dont actually need them to make great music. often limiting your tools can spark creativity.

    guitar - AMPLE SOUND (they even have free versions that are very good and compact!). saxophone - SAMPLE MODELING. electronic keys / piano - ADDICTIVE KEYS. drums - ADDICTIVE DRUMS. trumpet -for example ARTURIA BRASS. I don't know if you want legit and how much money you can spent but I was thinking only of what is cr.... and therefore 'free'. I don't know much about synths but I am sure there are many worthy of noting...

    freeze them maybe?

    i always have this feeling of more comfortable to work with waveform instead of midi, maybe i should just get a used laptop, simple ai, just to play the vsti and record it into my main system... seems legit.

    As well as freezing to audio, increase the latency of soundcard. Remove un-used samples from Kontakt after a play-through. Use 44100. Pause or remove anti-virus and suchlike. Get an SSD. More RAM? Don't use Kontakt/Omni FX.

    These guys are all spot-on and basically said what I would have. The only thing that I might add, which you may already know, is that when you are running these programs, bounce down the MIDI to audio when you are satisfied with a track. You can always save the MIDI file for later use if you need (or just rerecord it,) but in the meantime, your CPU will look a lot less angry if you are working with audio. I run multiple outs from Kontakt often and have to remember to do this so my old-ass PC doesn't pack it's bags and walk out on me. :yes:

    My main box is old, a 2009 tower with an i7 920 with 6GB of RAM, great for its day but only adequate now. Not unlike with games, if I try to use it for software from 2000-2010 it does great. The latest software, not so much. Any system can easily run stuff of its vintage. A Pentium MMX system running DOS and a tracker is screaming fast, or a PIII running Buzz, a G4 running Logic 4.

    A lot of the performance hit of 2018 software is improved circuit modelling, which has come about because of people wanting "realistic" MiniMoogs, Jupiters, 808s, etc. Or the complex nonlinearities which make a tube compressor or amp sound like tubes. It is IMO cool, so far as goes, but not necessary. Popular tastes are only starting to catch up with PD, FM, and wavetables - which were all popular in old digital synths of the 80s precisely because of their low overhead. Same goes for sampling. This is computationally cheap. It's the modelling and DSP that uses more resources. Including timestretching and convolution.

    There is also the matter of workflow. The modern elastic workstation can yield a lot of fun serendipity, but it's not the only way. If you know what you want, you can realize it in non-real-time on practically any hardware. My first box for music was a Performa 6230CD, which sucked for various reasons. Had a 75 MHz processor and 16 MB of RAM. Yet I was doing complex granular synthesis and spectral processing on it with CSound and SoundHack (both for free) which was honestly better than a lot of the work I have done since. But I had to plan out my ideas, hit the "render" button, and wait a few minutes to hear the result. Modern systems are more fun mostly because they let us joyride them without necessarily knowing what we're doing.

    tl;dr Bounce, freeze, use older/less complex plugs, offload onto external hardware, reduce overhead

    I am unsure if this guy above me is another one of Foster 911's personas and he just forgot to add the "s" at the end of "foster," or if this guy thinks we're all *actually foster children in the literal sense. Just sayin'....gotta be wary.... :rofl:
