Hey guys, I've installed Pro Tools 12 and I'm looking to use some of my VST plugins but I can't find a way to make them show up.. I'm using a PC btw.

For example, there are plugins that don't require installations like Klanghelm's VUMT. In this case, on Cubase, all you need to do is drag and drop the dll files into the VST folder.

But I can't seem to get it working with Pro Tools...

Any ideas on how to make this work?

If I recall correctly, Pro Tools does not use Steinberg's standard (VST) for it's plug-ins, rather a proprietary one.

@magnaproxy You could ReWire Reaper and use it to host your VSTs in PT. It has it's limitations but Reaper has a fully functional trial and has an awesome feature list. You can also use Reason in Pro Tools this way too.
The three I listed are the most straightforward when it comes to doing what you need.
These are some other ways but they either aren't supporting PT12 or are overly involved in learning and configuring.
Plogue Bidule is extremely capable once you get to know it.
Maschine, unless you have it already, is overkill. You can do what you need with just the software and not need the controller, though.
I love FXpansion but never used the adapter.

Old but it mostly still applies.

the easy and trolly answer is 'do not use Pro Tools'. Any specific reason for using it?

In my opinion Pro Tools still is an aging beast of a DAW and there are far more modern and superior options around. ProTools 12 did a lot to come back into the picture though.

But don't just start using Pro Tools because that is what the studios used in the 80s and 90s.

Rereading the page, still can't seem to find it. Don't think he has.

I meant it like this: A lot of people who want to get started with audio stuff just think 'Pro Tools' is the only way, so I was wondering why he was trying PT12 at all.

Apparently he didn't know that Pro Tools doesn't support VSTs at all so he must be kinda new to Pro Tools, so I was wondering why he wants to use / try it. If he answers 'to try to learn digital audio' there are other packages that might fit his need that do support VST, instead of trying to f*ck around with a VST-container-plugin.

Just use Studio One 3. You will be able to use all of your 32 bit or 64 bit plug-ins. Very stable, and easy to use. I have PT 11. I am finding myself using Studio One a lot more.

I did post why I'm using Pro Tools. I've written several posts, so it may be difficult to locate.

I'm taking a class on mixing/mastering and the studio uses Pro Tools 12, so I have no choice but to learn it.

Honestly speaking, the DAW of choice isn't an issue imo. At least in the big sense of the word.
And especially if you're a mixing/mastering engineer, you don't need the speedy work-flow like Studio One, FL Studio or Cubase 8. That I can tell you is the truth.

Well, trolly or not, that's a bold and almost arrogant statement to make against someone you have no idea about. Generally, people don't appreciate someone shoving their opinions down their throats.
