What a wonderful tool! Installed the latest version & tried on bass, drums & vocals. Truly a universal compressor as stated by Voxengo.

This is the default preset that was created as a starting point for all tracks. I call it 'Pseudoparallel'.
For more snap & punch, try different Mode, Feedback & Amp settings.
Had good results just choosing more aggressive amp settings for Kick & bass.

Voxengo has some of the best bread'n'butter effects IMHO.

I love it because I find it easy to achieve the sound that I'm looking for, be it a solo instrument, or a bus [usually], and it sounds great, too. :wink:Wonderful tool. And Crunchessor, too, which is cleaner sounding.

I also wish all of the plugins had a GUI colours editor like Voxengo plugins, so you can adjust them according to your taste and preference.

It's a very nifty gate, too.

Shame there's no "range" control, but it's very usable anyway.

Outstanding compressor. Extremely easy and fast to get where you want. Negligible CPU load. This is probably the most versatile compressor out there.

    Better?
Certainly more flexible. The renaissance series are good. I consider them to be kind of one-trick-ponies.
A more functional take on one knob type of processors??

'Different' is the fitting word. Marquis has an incredible internal sidechain eq and a 'Drive' parameter for distortion. It also sounds clearer/brighter and more upfront, but this doesn't fit to every source.

What do you mean? Neither of these are 'one-knobs'. Renaissence Vox is kind of 'one-knob'.

The first sign of good code is non-fancy UI :)
I was curious, so I tried it. I must to admit the first thing I liked was that it was very difficult to make damage to the sound, very musical but also light on cpu. Thanks for sharing!

?? Notice that a question out of random thought was being asked. Not a factual statement:)

When the Gate button is selected, the plugin switches to a downward expander/gate sharing the threshold, ratio, detector & drive controls.

As starting point for voice, try:
    Threshold @ -27 [email protected] Open/Close time between 8 - 9 o'clock. Increase the output as needed.
Also try switching the detector between Normal & Round. Further, try switching the amp modes.

Tried on vocal with headphone bleed giving a good result.

For those of us not aware...

    Most settings are self explanatory.

Voxengo Marquis Compressor User Guide & Voxengo Primary User Guide should help with anything not obvious.

Speaking of Voxengo general settings, you don't need Anti-Denormal Noise with Reaper. Only if you disabled it in Reaper, which is absolutely not recommended.
