Hi guys, I've just discovered an amazing tool to write midi melodies and drums directly by singing or humming. It's called Vochlea Dubler, and it costs around 280€.

(see on 0:27 to have an idea of how it works)

Do you know any more affordable and easier alternative to this software, to write just simple single layer melodies by humming them to an external microphone (or to integrated Macbook's one)?

Try MIDI Guitar 2 by Jam Origin but instead of guitar use Your microphone

I use the SonuusG2M version 3 to accomplish this. The latest version has the ability to do voice to midi and it works pretty well. I was very interested in the Vochlea as well but I can’t justify the cost when having a pretty close solution already works for $80. There’s also the Imitone plugin which you can get starting at $25. At that price it’s at least worth a shot.

You can do this in Reaper natively with Reatune. You just send the midi to another track and record it which you can actually put a synth in front of to trigger with ur voice.

I have Vochela. They gave it to me at NAAM. I really like it. It's good for Drums and pretty good for melodies. The mic they give you is low passed and latency is super low.

    Other options for some people

    Imitone - https://imitone.com/beta/
This one is pretty good and u don't need another mic to use it.

    Mtuner - https://www.meldaproduction.com/MTuner
A free option for real-time audio to midi using the midi output feature. You can put some other plugs before it to fine-tune it like mautopitch or a gate.

if you do not need it to be realtime conversion, Logic does audio to MIDI and you do not need a plugin. it works about as well as you would expect.

I dislike it. I had it, tried it out for awhile, and it doesn't deliver at all what it promised. It's about as effective as Ableton's native Audio to MIDI which, if you've tried to use it, know that it's not all that great. And since the company is hardly known, the re-sell value is pretty much 0. So it went right into the trash.

    Save your money.

I bet it's still the same algo as back in the Platinum days :)

Great for it's time but these days... ehhh...

you can probably do the same thing using MIGIC guitar to MIDI converter which only costs $29. US instead of $325. US for the Vochela, MIGIC has been around for quite a few years so it must be quite a bit more reliable than a new product that hasn't proven itself yet. The extremely reliable Jam Origin MG2 can surely also do the task with a hell of a lot more features effects and more and at $149. US and it still costs less than half of Vochela. I am always wary of new products, so I always stick with tried and true.

Neither is Dubbler. Watch a few YT videos from users/reviewers. My point was about it not being realtime, and very few people needing it to function like that. You'd hope most had enough common sense to not rely on this sort of thing for a live performance. I can only imagine the results!

in Logic I more commonly use the Drum Replace/Doubling tool. on the audio and then assign whatever to the midi track it generates. it gives you the note on for every "Event" over the threshold and then you just have to change the pitch and adjust the length.

I don't see why not if it converts the sound of string on a guitar with a pickup which is just like a mike it can convert a voice, get a demo on their site it won't cost you anything to try it out they have a Demo for both Windows and Mac. It works standalone and VST plus also AU for mac.
