I'm afraid I don't see your point OP. I don't know much about programming, but wouldn't any part of the software that will create those sonic spaces will be equal to a reverb plugin or perhaps an impulse loader? how would the reverbs be different from what we have now, devices and plugins that model different spaces? even if it would be a little more detailed, the overall result won't be different than using Altiverb.

Same goes to basically everything else. What would the difference be between a plugin that models a vintage eq, and part of the code of the VR software? and how the hell would you get to replicate guitars in there, when even the best guitar VSTs out there aren't able to do that? playing guitar and other stringed instruments is all about the touch of the fingers with the strings, if it was possible to replicate that, we'd already have it as a plugin.

I also doubt I'd get a kick out of playing to virtual audiences. It all sounds like a big waste of time, in my opinion, when you can make actual music instead.

You're right. Nothing different except the *experience*.

Although there are ways to view data in stereo 3D that aren't possible or useful in a 2D environment, there's nothing on offer technically audio-wise. Rather it would just help visualisation, make some parameters more obvious/accessible, etc.

If you're playing guitar inside Notre Dame, say, likely you give a better performance than just having the audio effected by a reverb. Maybe. :D Damn fun tho?
