While participating on another thread in which an expensive gear was mentioned by me the idea of having a thread dedicated to expensive gear occurred to me. By gear I refer to ANY type of hardware or software that is used in the music making process. I propose a maximum of 3 items and if possible an accompanying photograph.
I will start with 3 of my own:

1. Emerson Moog Modular System $150,000
2. Fairchild 670 Tube Limiter $30,000
3. Neumann U67 Michrophone $16,000

I fold, too. I guess that you've produced several world-class mega hits to justify the cost of a house on gear (Yeah, I can read the sarcasm in myself, too).

C'mon, man. Of all people, you shouldn't be throwing shit in the fan. If you knew how those tools sound in the flesh (or metal framework, for that matter), you'd be putting your foot in your mouth.

Either way, i don't think he meant it as "He owns this equipment". I think he meant it as "Here's my suggestions of random expensive equipment".

Isnt the vintage neumann 67 the one that was technically not so well allready in the 60s? I think it has somthing around 25 - 30 dbA Equivalent noise level. I think it was called the hair dryer mic ...

@Bill Vkerchi? You seem to be one of the few members that can actually comprehend what another member have written. I NEVER wrote that I owned any of the 3 pieces of gear I listed. I simply wrote "I will start with 3 of my own". That is totally different from saying "I will start with 3 that I own".

 

I wonder what all these vintage gear collectors are going to think when computers are finally able to recreate the sound of all their overpriced analog hardware for a mere fraction of the price.

I would say within ten years (probably sooner) consoles, compressors, reverbs, and most other effects will be able to be recreated in the digital domain with near identical accuracy. With Nebula I would already say hardware equalizers have been rendered obsolete, it is just a matter of time until other hardware joins that list.

I' m on the run from "The Authorities" so I will make it short...there are now lots of gear that use vintage/expensive gear as a template, Warm Audio to name just one, which brings the flavor of the expensive to a price point many more can afford.
