As a Kurzweil synthesizer user, I'm wondering if there are other users here who also use them and what they think of them. Also, why are there so few programs, ideas, tutorials, samples, etc., available to share for free among users? I only know of one site called Mastering VAST Forum (but to download the few truly interesting resources there, you have to pay).

 

I still have my trusty K2000R, I would never sell it because I loved it so much.
Sadly I don't use it right now. It's in a storage. Doing it old school out of the box eats up so much space

 

Im ashamed to say I haven’t taken my 2600xs out of storage in over a decade.

 

I’m hoping one day for a K2000 plugin so I can easily buy it for less than the hardware and still have access to a
L factory tones and the engine, though I’m not sure if every K2000 preset got carried up the chain of models cause it feels like the newer ones might be more different than earlier branches of the lineage

Not looking for just one preset, the whole library in the K2000 is what I’m after

 

PLEASE NOTE: The Kurzweil uses a CD ROM format that is not fully DOS compatible. This is referred to as the "Native Kurzweil" format.

In order to use a "Native Kurzweil" formatted CD ROM with the Kurzweil you must have a CD ROM drive connected directly to the Kurzweil's SCSI jack. Most PCs cannot read "Native Kurzweil" formatted CD ROMs without crashing.

Alternatively, we can ship this Kurzweil library in ISO9660 format. This format can be used with later OS Kurzweils and the files can be viewed and backed up on a PC or Mac. This format allows you to use your PC or Mac to copy the smaller banks to a PC formatted floppy which can be loaded into the Kurzweil. BUT keep in mind that banks larger than a single floppy would need to be split somehow with a special utility- if it even exists. Because of this we recommend the "Native Kurzweil" CD format for most users.

Hmm, I wonder if convert with moss could be used to convert the embedded samples from the disc to another compatible format? But I have a feeling there’s factory presets that only use VAST synthesis so they’d have to either be sampled externally or the hardware would need to be converted into a plugin

 

AWAVE can apparently read the K2000 CD-ROMS and convert *.krz files. I had no idea :/

Because the Kurzweil K2000 uses a highly complex hardware DSP engine called V.A.S.T. (Variable Architecture Synthesis Technology), no software can perfectly emulate or convert the raw synth programming. While your samples, loop points, and keymaps will convert perfectly, deep modulation routings, V.A.S.T. DSP algorithms, and onboard effects configurations will not transfer over.

1. Download and UnRar
2. The UnRar here with WinRar, beginn with " tz7mskrz.r00 "
3. Result is a "TZMSKRZ.bin" and a TZMSKRZ
4. Load the "CDXTRACT 4" Software
5. Go to " Virtual drives "
6. Open disc image --> TZMSKRZ.bin"
7. You can Translate the sound to Kontakt

I have a K2000 and PC88. Both are in flight cases and in storage.

I haven’t used them in a very long time. The PC88 was my go to board for many years.
