    Hello everyone.

As a younger producer, I have noticed my collection of presets, samples, ect. is very unorganized. I wanted to know how you guys manage, store, backup, etc.

Do you guys use external hard drives for this? or cloud drives such as icloud drive or Dropbox?

    Screenshots would be greatly appreciated!

Are you asking for Mac or PC?

One of the best solutions is external hard drives in RAID, connected by USB3.

This is my ext hdd (thunderbolt) with samples, loops and kontakt files (650 GB until now). As you can see, I prefer to organize sounds following musical genre

Due to heavy load, I guess is not a good idea to backup online, better buy an average ext hdd, copy all and put it in the closet

Presets depends a great deal on the software. Samples I organize to a pretty deep level, here is an attempt at a rough description.

    For sorting

For Synths (waves, ir samples ect)

Inspiration (music & sounds that inspire me)

    Midi (de midi stuff)

Multi-Sample Libraries /Bass/Drums/Orchestral Jazz Cinematic/Percussion/Synth/Various Orchestral Jazz is then further split into instruments and the company. Synth is split to Cinematic /vintage synth then both split into company.

    Multitracks

Romplers (all my romplers in here like omnisphere)

Sample Packs (2 sub folders in here Loops & Single Hits)
/Loops/Atmosphere Drones FX/Bass/Brass Wind/Drums/Guitars/Keys/Mixed/String/Synth/Vocal (most of these are then further split into musical genre. For some of those folders like synth & ambient i will have folders like warmth & electronic rather than just genres. The youngest child folders are the sample pack folders themselves ie Sample Magic - Synthwave.)
(Within the parent Sample Packs Folder I also have Single Hits) /Drums/FX/Music (within drums is) classic drum machines/mixed (drum machines is obvious enough, mixed is split into genre then manufacturer then packs.)(FX folder is a bit of a mess and i need to maybe just add them to the drums.) (Music folder is split into instrument similar to the first loops subfolder.)

    Samples to edit
