This thread has so much bullshit. People who hate on perfectly good plugins because they want to seem like they have "quality taste" only show that they really don't know what they're talking about. A lot of the plugins mentioned here sound great and are very useful. Btw, "Snake oil" doesn't mean stuff that you hate, it means stuff that literally doesn't work or doesn't have the advertised qualities.

Anyway, I don't really have plugins that I hate, if I don't like a plugin I just don't use it and I forget about it. The only ones that come to mind are Toontrack drum samples, which disappoint me every time. Something in the way they are processed just sounds bad. Actually that goes to most sample libraries that advertise as sounding realistic and have detailed functions, but they rarely do.

Also Airwindows plugins. They're free and a lot of people on the internet swear by their quality, but they usually sound nothing special - particularly the tape, saturation and console emulations.

I didn't like this one as well. I tried to run it on a problematic vocal and, unsurprisingly, it didn't help at all, or do anything that any stock compressor can't do. Maybe it's ok as a compressor, but it's about as smart as an amoeba.

It's not bad, (nor do I hate it,) it's snakeoil. It's just an ordinary purely digital eq with nothing special. Neither the 'Mastering', nor the 'Analog' switch changes anything.

And 40k? LMAO! This is how it looks in Reaper (at 8k).

Yeah i done the All Access thing with Slate too and cancelled.. It just felt like lots of the same things in slightly different flavours. I swear there's more change in the UI than the actual sound processing.

When you consider that if you stop subscribing you can't open projects reliant on those plugins it's very evil snake oil for me lol.

Ok.... Does anyone really know what the term "Snake oil" means???

"A substance with no real medicinal value sold as a remedy for all diseases"

It means... if you install a vst and it "does not do" what it says in the description... then it is snake oil...
Personal options on a functioning production do not apply...

I buy an EQ and I turn all the knobs back and forth and do not here any change in the sound... It is then "Snake oil".

But even the shittiest quality EQ, compressor or reverb can serve a purpose depending on the project and the sounds you are going for...

So as much as I heart all the Kilohearts and Waves shit.. People still use is, because it does what the description say's on the box.....

I don't know this EQ,the mastering mode isn't linear phase?
40K the very high, but you can get very smooth shelves normally with these very high settings, like on a Maag EQ4 or a Dangerous Bax EQ.Usually you use them for busses when mixing or for mastering,so I guess you know it ;)

I'd agree, but this was actually an April Fool's joke that continues to stick around. It's kind of hilarious, actually.

Slate is sorry that you didn't enjoy his ultimate everything all you can mega supreme package and is glad you were able to take advantage of the premium state if the art money retun service.

After demo'ing FGX I'm seeing why this Slate man is of the stuff legends are made of.

Well, now. Don't you know 40k frequencies have a lot of analog mojo that we audio-snobs-philes hear very clearly?
Even without high volume. Personally, even without ears... :disco:
Not to mention it even scares away mosquitoes

Smart but dangerous title for a YTuber... sets the standards very high.

Subscription payment models suck, unluckily enough they are here to stay...

The expression "Snake Oil" is just what a couple fellows have posted. Wild western era scammers selling placebo. Seen in many western movies/shows.

    Nope.

As well as with the digital stock eq.
Btw, that's why I don't use any special Baxter EQ, although I'm using this effect. No Baxter eq I measured and tested sonically so far, produced a result I couldn't achieve with the stock eq. So these are, to some amount, snakeoil too.

Funnily when I demoed this one some years ago for the first time I couldn't find anything superior and never used it.

Well i can't either because Izotope uses the same algorithms interchangeably between different programs.you are welcome to doubt me if you please, but you can null the exciter for instance almost down to infinity between Ozone,Neutron and Alloy.the only thing that sometimes changes is the dynamics algorithms, but not by much and it literally could just be a matter of internal parameter scaling differences.the reason for the complete lack of nulling is likely down to different oversampling algos i imagine

Speaking of ReaEQ I hate how the frequencies are spaced out on the GUI. Like 100Hz is where 50Hz is in pretty much any other EQ plugin out there. It messes with my head sometimes.

I know, but that's when Slate put his entire hamster fleet into the giant wheel of innovation at Slate Corp and made it amazing.

Btw isn't that coming from someone who uses a 9k board? Cut a break will ya'? Some of us are stuck using a bunch of mortal garbage...

    noun
    informal•North American
    noun: snake oil; noun: snakeoil
    1. a substance with no real medicinal value sold as a remedy for all diseases.
"some kelp products are snake oil, but the good ones promote plant growth"
      • a product, policy, etc. of little real worth or value that is promoted as the solution to a problem.
"the new tax plan was denounced as snake oil"
The thing you have to remember about Snake Oil is that some people actually buy it, and as a generality, the more they pay for it, the less inclined they are to disbelieve in it.

So, you pays your money and you makes your choice.
