Wow, didn't knew that. I don't think those are snake oil, at least not every plugin. But mostly they do some easy stuff, and you can get better results with other plugins, if you know how to do it. And they're cheap. I think these samey cheap developers are mostly gathering more inexperienced producers, and they make a business model with all these different more cheap brands. Maybe because it seems like 'diversity'. Many plugins do something useful, but you don't really need them.

Lately I like WA Production plugins even less, now they are doing synths, a few weeks ago they released their first synth, but now another one, they sould focus more on their products and make them better, instead of throwing out a new plugin every week. But what can you expect when your main targets are edm-zoomers with ADHD.

I find the widespread use of the term "snake oil" for junk things to be hilarious - the irony is that the original snake oil product for which the trope derives its name actually wasn't 100% useless. I don't remember what it was actually a legitimate ointment even if it was a limited use thing, which goes to show that no matter how badly things are advertised or despised by the fucking peanut gallery, all things in this world have SOME sort of reason to exist.

That being said, I'd say the VST I'd found the most disappointing to me was T-RACKS 3 that I own a boxed copy of. I could never figure out how to use it or make anything sound good with it. It's useful to someone else, but not me. I'd love to sell it if I could.
