The most important thing is that it works and works flawlessly.

Many users, especially beginners, appreciate that it is now installed automatically and you don't have to create or select anything. You just need to scan for new plugins, many have this set up automatically in their DAW and just need to select the plugin and go. This automatic method is fast, effective and safe.

Consensus in the industry? If you ask 10 people, you will get 7 different answers. Of course, there have been discussions for years about how to simplify it and take technological progress into account. Steinberg invented it - everyone is free to invent something better and bring it to market.

Steinberg really tries to make good, user-friendly products for every age group, because the better the product, the better the reviews online and in specialist magazines, because after all, a good reputation is important and in the end they have to make a living from it.

You think it's arrogant and selfish, I think it's made to be user-friendly. You have to agree on something and someone has to implement it - that's the Steinberg team. It would also be sensible to ask Steinberg themselves about the allegations or content you mentioned.

It does work if done correctly. The destination folder from the example should still be VST3 whether it is a root or sub-folder.

Using default source folder to new destination(source inside first set of quotations, target in second set. Example:
    • mklink /D "C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3" "D:\VST3"
    or
    • mklink /D "C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3" "D:\Plug-ins\VST3"

Oh yeah - My LINKS work fine.
What is it that you think i mean when I said: "OR... add the target to the search indexer, as mentioned here
(But it isn't working for ME so far ...):" ?

I mean that adding the target ("C:\64Vst3-Main\Vst3") to the search indexer is not making Windows search work properly through the symlink.

In my case I have the "Vst3" folder moved to "C:\64Vst3-Main\Vst3"
The symlinked folder of course is in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3".

I add that target to the Search Indexer and rebuild, but it has not allowed Windows Search to transverse the links so far. Searching from "C:\Program Files\Common Files\"for "*.vst3" or even "*.*" finds nothing at all, except for the Symlink "VST3", and a couple of VST3 things that are in "..\Common Files\*vendor folders*\"

If i click the symlink and search of course i find all the Vst3 stuff, but if I search from one folder ABOVE (C:\Program Files\Common Files" in this case), it does not find all the VST stuff.
