For those wondering about side chain functionality: I haven't tested it myself as moving around, but I read that clicking shift on the release knob (in the 1176 collection) activates the sidechain filter.

 

Correct. This is not Legacy. It's Mk2 algo with HR, Mix, and SC features removed.

 

I got those , too . But as opposed to other vendors the unsubscribe link worked and I never got a mail again . I really like some of their plugins , bought some and got some for free . But I am with others that the ilok protection sucks . Especially since some can be authorized to the harddrive (OK) , some only to ilok (ok for studio use but not when using live ) or ilok cloud ( not ok for me)

 

Yeah, I've generally been on record as a non-UAD fan as they have treated me previously, and the whole dongle interface thing, and iLok requirements etc.. but I've been collecting some of their giveaways, have purchased one or two of their plugs on sale that have been worth it absolutely, already unfortunately burdened by needing iLok (physical) on my setup for other dev's, so picking this up wasn't a chore or invasion more then I already have experienced.

In my UAD account, I simply unsubscribed to their newsletters or whatever, and hey, it works. I haven't gotten an email from them once.

I just keep them licensed to my damn iLok dongle, and it hasn't been a problem, nor do I need to be online when I instantiate those plugs, and I only turn on the UAD manager when I have to install a new one or chose to upgrade a previous one. No big deal. (other then previously mentioned dislike of that kind of system, but I'm stuck regardless...)... and no, they don't install a bunch of bloatware, the install and their manager is peanuts in hd space, and moving on....

But I block their stuff, and monitor as best I can what they do when they do it when their stuff is active, and it's really not that egregious or easy to sidestep.

No. It's not. I was told DIRECTLY by UA tech support that ALL LEGACY UAD PLUGINS WERE GONE AND UNSUPPORTED. I had/have a UAD-1 and the plugins are gone because the servers were shuttered years ago. UA doesn't recognize ANY legacy stuff as relevant these days at all. They also do not recognize UAD-1 owners as being entitled to any form of upgrade to the newer native plugins or even the hardware based junk. This is from UA. Not making this shit up.

Absolute hogwash. Read above. Once again for those who are blind or having a lack of sight the following comes from the UA WEBSITE describing this plugin:

"However, the promotional plug-in offers a simpler feature set and user interface, so you can find the tones you want quickly."

The only way I would ever use UA stuff again is when the witches make it so and not before. Not installing UA connect, not getting an iLOK, not making an account, not connecting a production box to the internet (ever). That's All...

I can corroborate this, as an early adopter to UAD in their nascent form in the early aughts, they f'd me over royally with this, and despite the fairly large amount of money I spent on their bs hardware cards pci/pci-e etc, they gave absolutely ZERO courtesy in terms of even transferring the licenses I bought from one form of that to another, let alone any other.

I had the OG 1176 they released around 20 years ago or whenever it was. I don't have access to it now. Nor do they recognize me in having purchased it.

You are not making it up. Why they still stick in my craw as a fu.

 

they are terrible with customers and tech support. it's just a waste of time to complain about when someone simply links you a free plugin. Don't use it. No-one cares. Another crying thread about iLok. Some people may like to see R2R sly dragons like UAD, but most are the ones begging for them to show up every Black Friday. If any one "important" person's opinion actually means anything in the greater scheme of things, it makes one wonder why they have time to be opening threads about free plugins. Or why they are sad about it not being the "full version" of a compressor we all have 10 other emulations of.

 

If revealing factual information about a "free" plugin is irrelevant then complaining about a reveal of factual information about a plugin is by order of magnitude even less relevant. For the record there was no complaining lodged anywhere here about this issue. There was a reveal of information about UA business practices which cites the fact that UA giving something away for free is never what these freebie "offers" are ever about. If revealing new factual information is something that cannot be done in a public forum then that forum becomes as useless as the one(s) who would attempt to squash the information being presented.

the only b.s. I read here is that someone only will use a software when it's getting crkd, while being angry with them at the same point.
if you have the feeling the company fails on you, just leave them behind - no matter what. its not like their stuff can't be replaced by newer software of other developers.

for me I still have four la2a plugins in my account. 3 of the collection and the single original one, that was out before they released the collection. already had this with my (uad-2) dsp card, now have it with my native versions....might not work for 1176 collection, I haven't bought these...also this option of the 4th plugin might be gone for now. still, I got it back then...

also you might wanna consider that there was a lifecycle after uad-1 cards. its not new that they dropped uad-1 support for over 10 years already...still so much anger after all this years...crazy [/QUOTE]

 

You can register an account, and get the plugin.
At this point, it will not show up on your web-account.

However, you are not forced to download UA connect if you don´t want to (yet).
It will be there the next time you open UA Connect, ready to be activated.

 

The better a company responds to the wishes of its users and produces plugins that are better than the competition, the more they will be able to sell.

As the competition in the plugin market gets bigger and the sales figures go down, the plugins usually become cheaper and in order to gain more or new customers, plugins will be given away for free.

Today, the plugin market is largely saturated and the competition is huge. Either you are very innovative and invent new products that people buy or need, or you make your products cheaper so that you can sell them.

In the end, not all companies will survive, some companies will be bought up by bigger companies or they will change their business model.
Another thing about free gifts in capitalism, there are no gifts and never have been.

For example, a prize draw where you get a prize is all about market analysis and customer data to attract new customers and open up new markets. Your e-mail address is used to make you offers. Sometimes customer data is also sold for profit.

 

You can try and deflect blame or use further b.s. to cover yourself, but the fact remains you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. The UAD-1 was dropped like a hot rock after tons of flack was received by their support dept. Their support dept was as clueless as the ones who designed it in the first place. The UAD-1 never lived up to the UA hype of what it was supposed to do and they knew this. THIS is why all "legacy" (i.e. UAD-1 stuff) was canned many years ago and forgotten. In your case, to prevent further embarrassment, just be silent. that's all... Buh bye now.
