Loads of people. The entire audio for post industry, for one. Almost all commercial studios, and many independent studios.

And UA are still selling plenty of interfaces and plenty of plugins, which range from OK to pretty great.

I personally don't like PT, and rarely plug in my UAD2 these days, but they are valid tools, and you're a bit silly for denigrating people using them to make good art, and good money, imo.

I'm seeing increasingly more top studios (in Europe) leaving ProTools/AVID and UAD in favour of alternatives like Reaper, RME, Focusrite...
but each to their own, it's their money to spend

 

Sure, they will have everything that users might be needing/using - they'll all have PT, Logic, Reaper, Cubase etc, but PT is what they will be using on the vast majority of tracking and mixing sessions. I doubt any top studios will be "leaving" PT any time soon, because PT is what a majority of clients that book studios expect (ie, people that have money, using these tools to make money), and not having it will mean turning down bookings.

If a studio can stay fully booked for the forseeable future on Reaper or FruityLoops clients alone, then sure, uninstalling PT is an option for them.

it's not about pro studios uninstalling ProTools, it's that pro studios here are not buying new licenses or falling into that subscription nonsense - they are using old versions (often PT10, barely PT12) and they are moving to different DAWs/solutions for reliable field recording, sound design etc..

Secondly, I agree..Over my career, I've spent an insane amount of money with Digidesign and avid kitting out my studios with the "industry standard Protools" and they can SMD for a "subscription". Protools sucked for midi so I spent most of my time in Logic anyways and most of the clients didn't care...

Most people are tracking at home in Logic, Ableton, Bitwig, Reaper and S1 since "Native" systems have become a reality. UAD are great interfaces with great plugins but I hate closed architecture and realistically there is equally great stock plugins in DAW's nowadays. The idea is great but I'm getting the same results with Audiogridder. Protools was indoctrinated into educational institutions and traditionally TDM systems were your only option for 16 + open mics and live to record.

I wonder how many times this UAD issue has been up here for the last 10 years............ many times.

And it´s always the same shite including conspiracy theories etc.

We´ve had the same issue with the TC Powercore hardware/plugins over the years.... based on the motorola cpu which might/might not has been nearly cracked resently .... still in process afaik - I could be wrong.

I dont blame folks like @vuminhquan99 hopes for a UAD (without hardware) crack (how immature and unenlightened it may be), not at all...... That´s completely ok with me.

You can't crack UAD hardware. Wake up.

I have seen NO such evidence in commercial studios in Europe. None.
IF this was a trend, it might be that new interns are only proficient on what they know IE. Reaper.
Reaper, RME and Focusrite do not stand up against a £50-100K PT rig.
Maybe you are just talking about the Pro Tools SOFTWARE without the external DSP?
