u-he has released a preview version of its Hive synthesizer instrument for Windows and Mac.

"Hive started out as my private weekend project. I was trying to figure out how to make the fastest possible
supersaw algorithm. It turned out, it’s a mixture of so called “mip mapping” and vector processing. This makes
Hive a little bit slow when you don’t use unison for the oscillators, but it makes Hive exceptionally fast
when you do. Well, for the non-unison processing we might add another algorithm some time later ;)

Anyhow, we’ve also always been bugged about two things: First of all, why don’t you make a simple synth that’s
full fo sweet spots? Secondly, why do all your synths smoke CPUs? So we decided to piece those things together.
Fast unison oscillators, a user interface that’s “reduced to the max” and an efficient take on those zero delay
feedback filters that I call “cheating”. Latter are not realistic analogue models, but they sound particularly
    good with unison oscillators.

So this is how Hive came about.

Unfortunately it’s nowhere near a ready state. We’re still pondering about some features that we might add,
we have a free hexagon to fill, we’re discussing alternative UIs, colour schemes and visual feedback. However,
we do think it’s in a state that’s ready for preset design. Whatever changes we’ll make, you’ll still recognize
your preset, and we’ll communicate all steps necessary to update them for the final version – if that will be
    necessary at all."

this synth is looking promising, low cpu usage is always good, look forward to seeing some reviews on it when it comes out

Like I mentioned on the other thread... I am not sure what this adds over all the other synths out there already. Only 2 Osc and 2 Sub Osc and not that many Wave forms to choose from, therefore it sounds very similar to other synths out there. Granted the GUI is very easy on the eyes and the synth is very easy to program. I just don't get that "wow" factor... nice to have, but not for a $99 for me, I'll get my Cubase 8 update instead ;)

Im not really into beta testing & stuff as im not interested in experiencing potential bugs & unfinished products will tend to leave me with a negative taste on the product lol, appreciate the thought but I will wait for its full release, looks like a clean fun synth :)

Is this not enough to have a wow factor ? I think people are missing the point when comparing synths when thinking all synths can do the "same things" as each other, which is basically true granted that they are the same type of synthesis.
However some have more specific feature sets for specific purposes, but in general theres many features overlooked in synths like quality oscillators, envelopes / lfos / filters / filter configurations, modulation matrix, effects, mod & pitch wheels, GUI, CPU Usage, protection schemes, development support & other small variances that set synths apart from each other.

User preferences & what you feel comfortable working with personally also plays a big factor.

If your worried about paying $99 for a quality instrument then I presume obviously you own no hardware :P & I wouldn't get your hopes up about a Cubase Pro 8 Upgrade as the recent version people are reporting as buggy in various different situations just do some googling.

It was just my opinion, it's ok to differ, maybe I miss a point, but so what? It's how I feel with this synth.
It has some nice sounds, I was just not thrown back, which I kinda hoped... maybe I had too high of expectations? The editting is definitely easy, it does have nice effects... if your new and look for something to begin with I would definitely recommend it as it's easy to understand/learn. All the U-He stuff is great btw.

Concerning the hardware I own the following in case you are interested, next to all the software, hence my concerns not feeling it adds anything to my collection (other softsynths):
    Roland TR-909
Clavia Nord Lead 2 with Rekon Audio VST-AU Lead2 Editor
Korg Monotribe (Modded with Amazing Machines Miditribe) + MTribe
    Korg Monotron, Duo and Delay
Waldorf Blofeld + with Rekon Audio VST-AU Blofeld Editor
Dave Instruments  Mopho with Rekon Audio VST-AU Mopho Editor
    Korg Volca Keys + VolcaControl
    Korg Volca Bass + VolcaControl

Cubase & the bugs... That's why I am waiting for the Pro8 update! I hope it's ok with you that I wait with spending my money?

You can spend your money on whatever you want, I was just curious on what was your logic for the unfair slanting on this synth ? All you had to say is "I own awesome hardware" :bleh: ofcourse its not going to be better then most & if not all of the hardware you have listed there lol

Can I have your Waldorf Blofeld ? :mates:

HAHA... I could have said that :bleh:

I wasn't slanting it I think... it's just that I own a bunch of stuff (hardware/software) that I am not convinced this adds anything really new. But I would definitely recommend it to people just diving into VSTs.
