I think a girl group claimed some time ago they'd used it as a template to become famous. I read it somewhere online, don't ask me where

Had to find out where the footage for Halcyon On and On came from:

    Planet Earth BBC Trailer (HD)

Here comes another MDMA flashback! Where is my flying car? I was promised a flying car.

Yeah the Planet Earth footage was the reason I chose it. Planet Earth rules! :headbang:
Funny you mention the flying car as I always say the same thing. Might be for the best though since most people can't drive on the ground and I can't imagine the mayhem that would ensue if they had options.

I hope nobody minds if I just continue on with Part 1. I think this song is fitting for today.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2H5qNe2MFzk

This is the same song as the above video but the audio wasn't too great in that one so I thought I'd put up a higher quality version with just audio.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ek3KNSF-6Pk

Why not have another? Where is the harm?

I was thinking of expanding this thread beyond just 80s if that's cool with everyone. I figured we already have some 90s tracks in here anyway and it could be nice. Or SAiNT if you prefer we could start a new thread. Also I was thinking of having Part 3 of the series dedicated to Industrial and it's ilk (Aggrotech, Dark Electro, Electro-Industrial, EBM, Futurepop, Industrial Metal, Industrial Rock, Power Noise, etc.) Since the genre as a whole makes some important statements about the world and the human condition I think it is deserving of its own post. We could also combine it with a little Gothic Rock, IDM, Techno and PsyTrance to give people an intermission between the pumping beats, bass and hypnotic leads. Let me know what you guys think. And just a note to anyone who has any misconceptions about Industrial I'll tell you right now that there is going to be something for everyone including some tracks I would pick for the "What Was The Last Track You Heard That Impressed You" thread. It's a very exciting time so stay tuned, I'm pumped. :headbang:

1983. Not that great, but it features Ice-T and falls apart pleasantly.

I thought it was high time that I shared this band with you. I grew up to these tracks and they certainly figured heavily in the soundtrack of my life. I was so upset when they broke up. What an emotive band:

I had a real thing for the female guitarist/singer Rachel Goswell. This song is just perfect:

Monday blues? That's okay because I'll be here spinning the soundtrack to your life all week long, so put on that coffee, grab those cigarettes and let's shoot for the stars. Mondays...we're bringing them back.

These first few selections are personal favorites of mine and the album would certainly be on the top of my desert island list. So join me for a sail around the stars:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WekDz_Qmr3A
    Hello it's me, it's me
Calling out I can see you
Hello it's me crying out, crying out
    Are you there?

    Hello it's me, it's me
    I want to touch you
It's me throwing stones from the stars
    On your mixed up world

Been circling round for twenty years
And in that time I've seen all the fires and all the liars
I've been calling home for twenty years
And in that time I heard the screams rebound to me
While you were making history, I could see the fire

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X45hWP_QKt0
    So take your time
I wonder if you're here just to use my mind, don't take it slow
You know I've got a place to go, you always do that
Something I'm not quite sure of
    But just for today
    Let go and slide away

I was thinking maybe we could go outside
Let the night sky cool you foolish pride
Don't you feel alive these are your times and our highs

    So take your time
I wonder which cup you drink from, I hope it's mine
Because you always do that something
Something I'm not quite sure of
    But just for today
    Let go and slide away

    'Cause I read your mind
I read it because it takes me where I can't find
Because you always do that something
Something I'm not quite sure of
    But just for today
    Let go and burn away

I was thinking maybe we could go outside
Let the night sky cool your foolish pride
Don't you feel alive these are our times, these are your highs

    Slide away, burn away
    Slide away, burn away

    I reach your mind
    I reach your mind
Because it takes me where I can't find
    I reach your mind
    I reach your mind

I was thinking maybe we could go outside
Let the night sky cool your foolish pride
Don't you feel alive these are our times and our highs

Maybe ever we could go outside
Let the night sky cool your foolish pride
Open up, you feel alive these are your times and my highs

Seen it all, I'm already there
Seen it all, I'm already there

Save your books and your pills
    I don't need them, I'm there
Save your books and your pills
    I don't need them, I'm there

You can do anything you want to
All you've got to do is try
You can do anything you want to
All you've got to do is try

I thought my best days had left me
My best years had left me behind

Then I watched them come back
Then I watched them come back to me
    And all the wild eyes
All the wild eyes, know what I mean

If trees cut stars and eyes to heaven
I'll bend them back and bend them again
If my skin looks tired and ol' from living
I'll turn right back and live it again

You better pray when the music stops
And you're left alone in your mind
'Cause I'll be hearing music till the day I die

Then I heard it turn off
I swear I heard the screams
    And all the wild eyes
    You know what I mean
They're scared they've lost their dream
    They press down on me
You know I thought I was there

    Hello, high, are you? Yes
    That explains it
Oh, you were walking 'round like some kind of angel
You were walking round like some kind of angel
    Hello, high, are you? Yes
    Well that explains it
    Well that explains it

    Quoting myself. LOL.

Interesting how he works (he explained it once in an interview), because he just uses stereo sums. Like he only had two 2-tracks.

His basic artistic principle is that of two parallel sonic worlds crashing into each other. Under that auspice he starts with a period of experimentation and exploration recording onto HD recorders and samplers. After he's finished he goes back to sight the data, and then starts layering up material, adding new when needed, but not in a traditional e.g. 24/8/2 mix sense. He just overdubs. There is no mix-staging. Just overdubs, and overdubs, and overdubs. No mix, just new versions. Eno worked like that for a while as well, I think.

He can work with traditional mixers if he wants to. I've seen him in videos twiddling knobs on a big desk, but his personal method (which goes back to the Can days) is just to overdub.

    Hi folks,
for everyone who havent seen yet and is interested in history of synthesizer's music in the late 70's and early 80's especially in great britan. Here's a link to the fantastic BBC4 documentation.
Also a lot of analog gear is shown.

OK..for everybody who hates british synthpop and experimental electronics of these days..here is a warning. Following bands are interviewed: Kraftwerk, Human League, Heaven 17, Yazoo, Depeche Mode, Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, New Order, Ultravox, Visage, Soft Cell...
