Forcing yourself into creativity by imposing severe limitations is a time-honored and effective technique. For many many years I've wanted to try to do a project written and recorded on nothing but instruments made out of found junk and a single microphone but as of today I haven't done it yet.
However part of me would argue that in this case, rather than simply removing plugins as a source of distraction and denying yourself their use, a better approach would be learning the discipline to stay focused and simply ignore what you don't need and use what you do. :dunno::wink:

OP, you can take a 'go for quality, but keep the CPU in check' approach, for example, can use native AL plugins on individual tracks, while using only oversampling-capable plugins on buses and the master. In special cases, you might also use oversampling plugins—for example, an oversampling EQ or saturator could be useful on a distorted lead as a worst case

    dunno for ex.

    EQ & Dynamics (Compressor, Limiter)
    • FabFilter Pro-Q 3 – (Dynamic EQ, up to 4x oversampling)
    • DMG Audio Equilibrium – (Highly detailed EQ, up to 32x oversampling)
    • Voxengo Elephant – (Limiter with up to 16x oversampling)
    Saturation, Distortion & Clipping
    • Kazrog True Iron – (Analog saturation, 8x oversampling)
    • VladG Molot GE – (Saturating compressor with HQ mode and oversampling)
    • StandardCLIP – (High-quality clipper, up to 16x oversampling)
    • Kazrog KClip 3 – (Master clipper, up to 256x oversampling)
    Mastering & Final Touch
    • FabFilter Pro-L 2 – (8x oversampling)
    • DMG Audio Limitless – (16x oversampling)
Then quite a lot can be trashed.

while i agree with this for the most part, the flipside is having all of the plugins, samples, libraries etc can just be fun! if you are a new producer, maybe not, but if you have years of experience, know what the tools do, and when and how to use them, it can keep things interesting by using different tools.

I have hundreds of plugins. I OWN hundreds of plugins. I have 10 or 20 go to plugins, but i still regularly use almost all of them. ive mentioned my technique here multiple times, but i have it set up in ableton so that i can roll the dice on a category that ive set up, eq, compressor, analog synth, modern synth, room verb, plate verb, glitch drums, live drums, etc etc, i have 30 or so categories. I roll the dice and it loads a random plugin from that category. It keeps things fresh, exciting, and yields unexpected results. If the dice roll doesnt work, and for whatever reason that plugin may not work for the intended use case i am after, i can just load a go-to plugin.

Same with libraries and samples, except i dont have them setup with a dice roll. I just have them meticulously organized, and will experiment within a category. Just for fun.
