Hey silly sausage, you wouldn't happin to know how to block stuff on Mac osx I know how to use the fire wall but it's kinda weird that you can only block the apps and not specific files.im kinda stupid...or am I missing something.....I usually ask copy if I have a question about Mac stuff but I feel guilty buggin him all the time....when he already has done so much for me and the community

 

it is the vst's themselves that are calling home (and leaving the backdoor open), so just block them or your DAW from accessing the internet, then the only issue is the occasional time bomb, so as long as you have copied the keyfiles , you just need to place the keyfile back with the relevant vst if the timebomb has removed it

 

You just have to block the DAW app. Plugins can't be blocked on their own, all calls are routed thru the host (DAW). Here it may require also blocking via host file, really dunno. ;)

 

It actually removed some of my tone 2 stuff.

just copy the dlls as well then (save them into a rar for example), make sure to place each vsti / keyfile into its own separate folder as well

 

How do you block your DAW from accessing the net? Sorry, bit of a noob with this. My current PC has never seen the internet, however my new setup will as I need internet access to register Cubase. Win 7 btw. Cheers.

Oh, and I have reFX Nexus 2 which I was planning to install on my new setup. Should I bother?

 

use Win7's own firewall - control panel / System and Security / Windows Firewall / Advanced Settings

create a new rule for both inbound and outbound

new rule / Program / locate program path (.exe) / block the connections / finish

I blocked my DAW using the firewall and 5 minutes ago I opened my daw with internet connection.. But the second i opened it i disabled my network.. But oddly Tone2 Electrax caused the opening to hang. Then on next open Electrax was gone. And I opened Gladiator and it worked fine but then when I closed the DAW it said the program stopped working and the error was related to Gladiator. So looks like I have to do another fresh install.

 

Would that suggest something deeper I need to get rid of?

 

just make sure your DAW is blocked, your internet connection can then remain open, the vsts automatically call home when you open them inside your DAW, if they can not find a valid licence from Tone2, they are deleted from your pc

save each Tone2 vst in its own separate folder, including its own key file and back up the key file and dll and put them into a rar file, then all you need to do is copy the back ups again if they get removed. Some of the vsts have timebombs where again if they can not check / locate a valid licence they delete themselves

Never work with audio software when internet is connected.
Use a firewall ! Never had any problems.
I like Tone2 Gladiator a lot and use it since the first release.
Never got bombed and never will...

 

Gladiator was the first plug which I bought. Tested on a really nice website with very nice people.

 

I use Gladiator, but would never pay for it.
I am not supporting Tone2 and their evil malware practice.
Developers have to code software and not malware too..
