The heavier, the better.. Might find something over here:http://www.theatricalsupplies.com.au/index.html They probably sell fire-resisting curtains as well.

As for your other thread: Mineral whool or Insulation batts, as they're called..
For absorption you'll need the higher density types, starting at 40 kg/m3

    I'm with "boom".
1 Theater curtains are very thick.

2 You can find velvet "regular" house curtains for very cheap or even for free

3 Some curtains for effective light blocking are made with one side in latex-plastic AND the other side in fabric.
If your sound source face the fabric side, they can be very effective. they are thick too.

I wouldn't go Auralex. :) They suck for this. I'd rather go DIY (drapes/curtains, rock wool absorbers/basstraps, diffusers, etc).
Remember to leave some space between the curtains/drapes and the wall. The gap will work as a sound barrier. If you add more layers/curtains with space between, the better the insulation/isolation.

Optimal would be to build a room inside a room:

Auralex has all that stuff. Panels, drapes, bass traps etc. I'm pretty sure these people know what they are doing. Have you been to their products list? Plus they have support. From a tech aspect, I think they have a handle on acoustic treatment. You may not like their products, but I'm pretty sure they are not in the "suck" category. Strictly pro.
