Hi community - Avid has 50% off Pro Tools Ultimate 1-year sub for new sign ups at the moment (until March 31). I’m thinking of biting the bullet, but wanted to install the trial version first and check out the new features before I commit, however, my fear is that it will f*** up my AU PT 12.5. Has anybody have legit Ultimate running along Audioutopia’s one? If so, would you be a legend and share some info on how to do that under Windows 10?

 

You can't, in my experience it will overwrite your current version, I tried installing 2019 demo, and ended up having to reinstall my 12.5 version

 

Maybe on separate directories?

So, the current PT Ultimate v2021.3 won’t even install, it spits out the “uninstall previous versions” error if I try. Therefor I suspect the program files has to be moved instead of copied to a different directory. What directory is preferable for PT to automatically find it? At this point I’m only curious for anyone else interested since @anon69 above mentions the video engine conflict, so that’s where it ends for me. However, I do wonder if PT Ultimate could use the old video engine, since it doesn’t install the new one by default, it’s an optional install after the main installation. Probably not.

 

I have Windows Mulitboot system for that very scenario...One drive has windows 10 running ProTools 10 and 12.5 running side by side on the same drive for all my older sessions..The other boot has ProTools 2020 for all my current sessions. I just use EasyBCD to setup multiboot and IReboot to switch between boots.

 

Thanks for your tip @Martin Martini Definitely sounds like a way to go if you have spare drives. Unfortunately all my internal drives are filled to capacity.

 

So i needed to come back here because, I found the fix for vide engine when you have both versions of Protools installed. add this to a notepad and save as a .reg registry file extension and double click once saved to add


Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Avid Technology\Avid Video Engine\8.4.6]
"DataLocation"="C:\\Users\\Public\\Documents\\Avid Video Engine"

This will add the video engine feature back to the audio utopia along side working with ultimate. just found out today. working good on my end with 12.5 ultimate and legit pro tools 2021 perpetual.

 

will this work after 1 year of subscription?
will this work with the R2R aax unlock?
are able to step down to R2R version?
