I sometimes come across the problem where some of the drum tracks need to be supported to various degrees by SD3. It has a tracking section where you can load the tracks you want SD3 to play. Inevitably, usually overheads and some other cymbal tracks aren't recognized well by SD3, so you have to just go with the original tracks mixed with what SD3 will play.

Now you have a problem in making a completely cohesive drum kit sound with SD3 and all of the original recorded kit components. What I do in this situation is strip any post-drum processing on SD3 and run a send from the SD3 instrument track to the regular drum bus. In this way, the entire kit sounds cohesive -- even with a 50:50 mix of recorded drums:SD3 and 100% of recorded overheads and other cymbals.
