Hey everyone ! I've been recently quite addicted to Tigran's last album in which there are few occurences of some interesting synth sounds, I would love to know what type of synth/wavetables were used in this intro especially the main arpeggiated one (I've just managed to identify the filter automation and the layered noise, but hey that was the easy part hahah :D) This song ... KICKS ASS hahah
If you want to learn more about the exceptional jazz talent Tigran Hamasyan, read on here: www.yamaha.com/artists/artistdetailb.html?CNTID=7213701&CTID=5070220
Thank you Radio for your link to his bio, his career is definitely quite impressive ! ;) I would add this song too in which the intro synth sounds sooo good
Sidenote: Why is this considered jazz but Animals As Leaders isn't? Or Sungazer. None of them seem to be improvised so I would not categorize any of them as such. Not saying anything about it being good or bad. Just that I had a bit of formal jazz training and I genuinely don't get why completely written music is now categorized alongside jazz, since our focus at the time was ALWAYS on how to improvise without sounding like shit.
because electric guitars and wild drum arrangement are considered closer towards metal/djent rather than jazz speaking of which, what is T.R.A.M. then? https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLH22-xSMERQrrPXPQtvucZR6AhzFRek05&si=PvY-CTDUxU9DL7fm
The track that OP posted is basically djent with piano instead of electric guitar. Tell me you can't find similarities with this: T.R.A.M. is a lot closer to what I think about jazz: it has an underlying structure over which musicians improvise. Here's an album with metal/rock instrumentation that I feel is closer to jazz than what OP posted: Another good example (this bassist Gary Willis is unbelievable): Something I would classify as a contemporary styled jazz with synths in the arrangement (to relate to OP): I'm not really sure if this Tigran guy isn't "youtube jazz", as I have mostly heard him referenced by music youtube influencers, most notably drummers. The music is cool and interesting (would be cooler if I hadn't been spoiled by Meshuggah for decades and Animals as Leaders afterwards), but it's written and not impovised. At least the highlighted tracks, haven't given it a deep listen.
I find Jan Garbarek very interesting and inspiring, very broad range and diversity. Jan Garbarek " Til Vigdis" (1967) Jan Garbarek & The Hilliard Ensemble Parce mihi domine (1994)
