The Thomann ComboRack is a new keyboard studio rack with pull-out shelves and 6U of rack space that securely stores your keyboards while keeping them playable.

The Thomann Cyberweek Sale started today, and some people are getting new synthesizers or other electronic music tools. A question that only arises upon delivery: where to put the new keyboard synth or drum machine in the studio?

One of the most popular, and also my first choice so far, is the Jaspers keyboard stand. They’re not the most aesthetically pleasing, but they’re practical and last almost a lifetime. Others use standard IKEA wardrobes to store everything or make a DIY keyboard shelf.



Something that’s been missing from the market so far is a studio rack that you can pull out to access synthesizers and other instruments. Moby, for example, has a nice wooden one in his studio.

I was looking for it at the beginning of the year, but in the end, I chose a second Jaspers stand for my larger keyboard synths. Had I searched today, I would have found something new from the largest music retailer.

Thomann ComboRack
The music retailer Thomann has launched the ComboRack, a newly designed rack table, all in black, designed for electronic musicians.

It has dimensions of 1046 x 600 x 773 cm, weights +/- 55 kg, and is made of Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA). Yes, it’s anything but lightweight.

What makes the ComboRack special and intriguing is its unique design, unlike anything else currently available on the big consumer market. It’s a rack table with three freely adjustable drawers for keyboards up to 61 keys, drum machines, effects units, and more.



Additionally, there are two 6U rack spaces in the lower third of the ComboRack. These can be used to place 19-inch rack synths or effects units, or simply more drawers with a maximal depth of 440 mm.

Ready To Use
One advantage over traditional furniture is that the Thomann ComboRack is open at the back. These openings let you organize your synthesizers and gear while keeping them neatly connected.

Something I dislike about my beloved Jaspers stands is that once everything is connected, cables hang down from the devices, which doesn’t look pleasing. Additionally, it has two cable outlets for easy integration into existing setups.



This is a much nicer solution at first look. And with a suitable rack power outlet, you could set up the power connection even more in the dark.

First Impression
The ComboRack is a bit late for me, but it still piques my interest, as it looks nicer and more practical than my “new” Jaspers.

Among the countless simple keyboard stands available everywhere these days, this is finally an idea that makes absolute sense for studios with synths. Maybe I should give it a try, even if it means reorganizing my studio.
