I am not a violin player but vsti strings never quite hit the spot even though I spend a lot of time messing around with them myself.

Nice! I'd say after a guitar a solo violin is kind of the hardest instrument to imitate using a plugin.

To me this sounds like a 'real' violin! So I don't think this is a vst?
If it is I would really like to know which one it is?

 

+1 to the chris hein collection, those vsti can be very expressive.

 

I would suggest Swam solo violin, but if you think sample libraries are difficult to manage, better forget it.
But in this case, it could be a real violin.

 

Sounds like a violin performance to me.

Interesting necro thread out of the past. Wow someone needed to make their first post so they dug this out of the crypt.

The Chris Hein stuff is good but if we are talking about what is in the actual clip.

It's two violins, two viola, and a cello, a piano, two flutes, a muted French horn (I think I head a brass drone in places,) and very large room. At least for the first 3 mins. It's been a few years I would hope the OP has resolved their need for a simulacrum of a violin but it's interesting to read how things have progressed.

I've got great results from the Embertone Friedlander violin but now I use Virharmonic Bohemian violin for nearly everything. I usually process for a Jean-Luc Ponty/Eddie Jobson electric vibe.

 

I tried 6 or 7 violins on this piece and nothing made me 100% happy for various reasons but this came closest. I *think* it's Joshua Bell.

 

the thing that came closest to this to me was the Joshua Bell Violin, if I only could control the way a note slides to the other I think that I could make a perfect copy of this one

 

Glad to hear you've found something that works. Have you played with the portamento and legato as a midi cc.

It will never sound perfectly right but you might get closer.

 

Joshua Bell is definitely amazing. While I was at the Russian wet market I got a few other Embertone things, great stuff!!
