Man I've never bought any product from a major company if it wasn't at discount price (and I'm talking about audio fx, vst etc obviously, although most market work the same, as soon as there are several players you can leverage something right ? Good old capitalism).
But I don't expect the same from small one. If the price is right. Simple common sense.
And yes something prevents from selling at any price : lack of buyers. Which is what happens when you sell a product too expansive. Simple law of the market, unless you're Apple or Slate or Waves.
But even those big cats do sales all year long. Crisis is a b...h.

Yep, it's only musicians who have to spend years working for free, sample-pack makers must be paid handsomely!

It's just a business. If you created a product, you are entitled to ask the price you want.
If you are not happy, go elsewhere. There is no need to be arrogant toward the developer..

Well, waiting for a discount is not the same as "negociating price reduction with any company I deal with". For the rest: It doesn't matter at all what we think the product should cost. He sells it for that price and doesn't offer a discount, so there's only a buy or not buy decision. Whatever happens on the market won't change that. Who are you to claim the product would be too expensive? I'm sure there are well situated producers (A van B) who'd wonder why they get it so cheap.
And wishing he'd face hard times on the market won't change the price either.

While your remark is funny (and it IS funny), it is also counterproductive in this very thread. Unless of course you don't want the musician to be paid handsomely as well, but all the others to be working for free as well:winker:

I was just being ironic, as the people who are behind this stuff are mostly musicians and producers who have turned their backs on making music and producing, since nobody was buying their music either.

And now they make sample-packs, presets, books, tutorial videos and plugins, etc, and try to sell them to other musicians instead.

I get a flood of emails everyday promising to make me rich from music :) but It's a sad fact that the way to make money nowadays is to do exactly what they are doing.

In fact, I've just pitched an idea to Waves about creating a signature set of plugins with NO KNOBS at all! Even their One Knob plugin collection will look complicated next to mine :bleh:

I think it's simple economics... nothing personal.. even mafiosi say ..."it's only business" when Michael Jackson
outbid Paul McCartney for the Beatles catalog.. what did he tell Paul...? "only business man"

karma can be a mean bitch..so do business in and enlightened way if you can.. or if you believe in consequences.

problem is, most entrepreneurs seek return on investment..but no one OWES them anything..no one OWES them any sale,
and they don't OWE anyone a discount... that's what is great about the free market.. if you are creating value for others
then you will get sales.. if his product is deemed to be over priced.. people will decide not to buy it.. just like @Moogerfooger
made a market decision.. being pissed off about it is irrelevant..

@Zenarcist if you want to get paid for making music..then what scheme are you trying to use? If you are serious about
getting an income, I mean it's not a 9-5 jobber right? Alot more hoops to jump through... I won't deny
the music biz is probably one of the most ruthless.. but that's not the point either...

it is what it is.. I ,for one, am happy that technology has been the vehicle to pretty much
take them to the cleaners, sorry for the artists/producers .. but what else is new? :dunno:

anyone remember this .... ? ( lyrics at yt )

If i recall correctly, there is software out there that will automate the process of fully sampling an instrument in multiple velocities etc.
I doubt it took nearly as long as people think to do...

The money is not in the making of the music, it's in having some kind of commercial influence over the people who listen to that music.

I'd go straight to the top of the charts without the need for any strap on, as I've been adequately blessed by mother nature

Maybe it's just me then. From the guy's responses I got a definite feeling of him being somewhat dismissive/arrogant, but it seems like everyone else is defending him.

FWIW I'm not saying everyone should be able to name their price. But the maybe I will [raise the price]. not a bad idea line and the big mac analogy gave me a sort of prideful, show-you-who's-boss vibe. IMO if you're conscientious of professionalism you don't engage that sort of criticism by telling the customer he's wrong to feel that way and then calling your target demographic cheap and ignorant. You explain that development was very labor/detail intensive and you keep it moving.

Especially as there is no looping to do, and I haven't seen these, but is there a custom GUI and Kontakt scripting doing anything clever, or are they just very simple playback instruments..? If the latter, wish the right tools and expertise, you could bash these out in an evening, or over a few evenings if you wanted to take your time and really check everything was perfect...

Well he does use a Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6 interface for his sampling, and I would also be a little arrogant if I had access to that kind of gear :)

No it's not just you. If you want to read the very first response in this thread (it's a post by myself), you'll read that I also pointed out that he's an arrogant ass.
But, that doesn't change anything regarding the topic, which was: "See, I only use warez because of those arrogant jerks that won't sell me their library for the price that I think is worth the product."

And that's bs. You do the same to a guy that is not arrogant, but still won't lower the price. For example. The only reason for the post, as @Moogerfooger already said was that he was pissed off by that guy. Understandable, but doesn't make the logic correct.

If a guy is arrogant or pisses you off, just don't buy his products. It's not that difficult. You can even warn us others to stay away from him - but don't argue that you have to rip his library because he's arrogant.

EDIT: p.s. I would never buy from this guy. But that has nothing to do with the appearance of his website or his arrogance. It has to do with the details he decribes. VST is a definitive abbrev. and stands for Steinberg's Virtual Studio Technology. What he sells however are Kontakt instruments and samples that don't run as VSTs. Also, his equipment is not very professional.

I don't know who this guy is and the entire argument seems kinda pointless to me, but let me get this straight, he sampled a sound module made by another company, and tries to sell it as a kontakt library? I don't think that's legal.

If it's an analog synth, it's not really a legal problem.

If it's a sample-based synth, it's a no-no because the sound recordings contained within aren't yours to creative derivative works outside of regular normal use - ie, using another company's sound recordings without permission to sell a sound library is definitely not legally allowed.

The MKS20 is a tricky one though - it's *not* playing back samples (ie sound recordings) - what Roland did with SAS is to analyse piano recordings, then synthesise waveforms/spectra from different portions of the sound, and use those to rebuild a synthetic approximation of it. Whether that SAS analysis data and resultant waveforms technically can be defined as a "sound recording" is not clear - it's probably ok, and certainly other people have done it without Roland issuing any cease and desists...

Maybe he's very cheap and doesn't understand the value of those products.

I assume he is a gospel musician
