Not sure if right place to post but, I'm curious to hear your thoughts about this video:

    Cheers.

PS: Just so you guys don't get the wrong idea: I'm not against the group in any way. This is not to cause suspicion or confusion.. Because I am literally curious as to what you might think about this. Some probably know alot more than I do on the matter. That's all.
I'm not the author of this video either. I was nothing but concerned. Watching the positive replies that seems to shed actual light on the matter proves to me that this community is literally awesome. Thank you all so far.

I didn't expect a keylogger, but this is not a proof of malware perse

Oh damn... rock of salt here because the vid author says he's far from an expert.
But I don't understand the keylogger either.

We have some showdrama incoming here... I can feel it

Edited: of course the possibility of a third party infecting the keygen is very real
Edited2: and so is the possibility of the "so-flagged-keylogger" doing nothing wrong. We're talking of R2R here

It's not encouraging. There is the thing that if they wanted to be malicious they would. So far they have not been. That stated, it is unsettling though.

Very suspicious... I have lost faith to this team long ago, I never use any of their releases.

I don't think he mentioned where he exactly got it other than being a torrent? Considering it's an Ableton Keygen, it's a highly valuable software to pirate, so I'll take the safer route of assuming it was tampered with. Would be interesting to compare the hashes of the Keygen on the sister site vs that one he got.

The source of the keygen is important as well. If it's from some non vetted site they could be the ones adding things to the keygen. Who knows?

i've been using some releases from our russian cousin for many years now and never had any problem with them. sometimes they do repack stuff or do the virtual folder trick though. in any case, keylogger or not, no internet on my machine.. actually i'd be happy if i got infected with something heavy, it'd give me a reason to restart with less plugins ;)
no backups, i live on the edge :bleh:

would that russian cousin happen to end with ".me" ? Because I initially found this video on Reddit and someone pointed towards a russian place. Then again, I have no idea whether it is trusted or not anymore. And reddit isn't exactly the most... trustworthy place to discuss such either.. I think. :P

    Best Answer
He says an shows absolutely basic things, throwing dust in people’s eyes with such aplomb, as if he were doing something super hacker-like.
He seems to be an AP-Mastering boyfriend

even adding Halloween sfx to scare viewers
    what a cringe

Honestly, all this stuff. Best to just ignore it. If we keep stirring the water then it just gains attention. Nobody wants that.

I'm pretty sure I have a keygen from the original Ableton 12.0 or 12.1 release and while the hashes are different from the ones shown in the vid, the keylogger capability is indeed there according to capa.exe. I am usually monitoring my traffic and I've never seen anything suspicious tho.

My first guess was the video actually was going to be the AP-mastering guy. The video about R2R release of his plugin is full of scare tactics. All he is trying to do is sell more plugins and/or get more clicks.

I've mentioned the "trusted vs. untrusted" subject many times, when people post about using no malware scanner and disabling Windows Defender on machines that do connect to the internet. It's also worth mentioning how few "traditional" virii are out there in the wild these days. Today’s infections tend to rely more on targeted social engineering, account compromise, or persistence on fewer, higher-value systems rather than mass self-replication.

I haven't watched the video and I only skimmed through to see if it was AP guy, and then only to see if I recognized any of the testing software that might be in use. I'll watch it a little later today and maybe comment on the actual video content. But the agenda of the thread, and the video; the word "helpful" has not crossed my mind once yet. The video screams that it is clickbait, perfectly timed with AP meltdown.

    I confirm. R2R uses keyloggers.
How else would they know we like graphics with anime-style cute girls and chiptunes?!
