This almost percussive (maybe a pluck) (FM?) bass sound

    Hi

    I dont want this exact sound but I have heard this "style" of bass on a lot of songs?

    Not really my thing as I always use real bass but I need something *like* this?

    Any suggestions please

    Yeah, sounds like a FM bass to me. Made a similar patch in Surge yesterday. 2 sine oscillators, second oscillator modulates the frequency of oscillator 1, second oscillator only for modulation (turn volume to zero), 24db lowpass maybe at 200hz, fast attack and short sustain on the amp adsr will get you in the ballpark. The first oscillator might have to be set one octave below the second, not sure from memory right now.

    Well, you're right it's an FM synth.

    Most FM thingies can do this (and most likely have a similar one in their presets), you might want to look up "Lately Bass" and "Solid Bass" and take it from there, these are presets from Yamaha FM synths and variations of these are all around. If you fancy emulating or getting the originals then TX81Z and DX100 are your targets.
