I always rated the original piano solo in "Giant Steps" to be pretty bad, but not because Tommy Flanagan was a bad pianist or anything. It was just that Coltrane marched in with one of he more complex creations of his and the band had no time to rehearse at all.

There are many interesting, as the One note Samba, actually loved play that song.
What I see as tendency in modern music specially in electronic music with an infinite variations or ways to modulate a sound as with synthesizers and VST or effects it's exactly why I am looking, to a way of creating that timbre color or tonality effect while playing guitar or string instruments, with Midi and DAWs (video at 12:00) playing one note but changing the modulation.

Now I can't think of any particular song, but trance, psy goa or any of that hardcore dancing styles that relays on rhythm and modulation but melodies are almost gone.

This song was quite popular and probably the most interesting part it's the synth that seems to be talking, instruments/music that resembles talking or transmit emotions are real achievement or the art of music in general
