Yeah mate, I did it all years ago. Disabled unnecessary processes, start-up apps etc... It'srunning smoothly, but one thing I miss is something similar to System Mechanic "Free up RAM" function which clears RAM after longer use :dunno:

Kingston XyperX Beast 32GB @2400 mhz CL which is plenty enough. But yes, I do use Kontakt/various plugins a lot and switching between DAWs when working.
So freeing up RAM after longer use would be nice. Just sayin' :winker:

If you must use a memory cleaner, try this: https://www.koshyjohn.com/software/memclean/ It seems safe and simple.

More than15y ago when I was obsessed with so called "system optimisers", that do nothing but make your OS slower [lol], and can cause problems, I tried using a similar utility in hope that by *running an additional app in the background* [lol] will *save some memory* and make my PC *run faster*. Then I learned that Windows memory management does a pretty good job in itself, and this is completely unnecessary.

Some interesting replies about that here: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/37230-63-free-memory

    Cheers!

That's right. Stay away from all those "optimizer". Waste of money plus the risk of messing up your system with their "registry cleaning" options.

To free some RAM, maybe it would be a good idea to check what's running at Windows startup with this little tool: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/what_run_in_startup.html

Nirsoft has some incredible and very helpful tools that are small and run without installation. I find them indispensable. Check them out!

Majorgeeks website is a great source of Windows tools, too. Thanks for mentioning it, Pirate!

@playtime Go to Task Manager. Open Processes. Check mark on left bottom corner "Show processes from all users" and see how many processes you have open with you DAW and VSTs closed.

I want to learn about context menus + shell extensions in Win7.
They were relatively easy to master in WinXP but now I can't get my head around them and command syntax in a batch file.

I need something like the following, to help me catalog my RAR archives of VST's sorted by developer name eg. U-he.RAR >> into an Excel database...
    1. In file Explorer - right-click on U-he.RAR , a context menu option "Display contents" or "List contents", appears,
    2. A command is triggered to execute RAR.EXE, with the correct command line syntax to list the contents of U-he.RAR.
    3. The output of the command is sent to either the system Clipboard, or a temporary .TXT file,
    4. The result text is opened in Notepad.exe

I know registry additions are needed in somewhere called 'Shell extension' , but I don't know where to start :dunno:

I already explained a hack to prevent that to @wasgedn who had a similar problem. I also attached a program. Look the post below the one you are referring to.

"Process lasso" for all manner of process prevention.. I like the "Terminate Always" option for always disabling Ableton indexing when launched its loaded with features.
Windows explorer suks big.. "Directory Opus" for the win.. its an amazing file manger.. i just cant go bak to explorer after all these years using Opus.. hope it helps some. :)

It would be helpful to know which program you use. These commands l and lb are available in rar.exe and unrar.exe command-line tool.
    Rar.exe l -pPASSWORD archive.rar
If you just need the filenames then use lb instead of l:
    unrar.exe lb -pPASSWORD archive.rar >files.txt

    Also read this https://www.winrar-france.fr/winrar_instructions_for_use/source/html/HELPCommandLineSyntax.htm

    For zip files read this:http://kb.winzip.com/kb/entry/81/

    God Mode

To turn on God Mode, create a new folder on your desktop--or anywhere you'd like--and name it: GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}. Don't include the final period. The resulting folder will contain 270 items, representing virtually every configurable option in Windows 7. :guru:
