just wanted to thank everybody in this thread, all the tweaks have greatly improved how my laptop manages CPU overloads!!!! Going thru each Black Viper configuration one by one disabling or switching to Manual in the startup and services was the definite game changer. Since 2011 I've had this laptop running FL projects smooth up until underruns and then bouncing to audio. Now I have yet to experience any underruns or dropouts. Also forcing your power plan to always stay on High Performance saved me constant hassle of having to set it to that after booting up.

THANK YOU AGAIN and I hope to contribute back to this community.

SMART (Service Management And RealEasy Tweaking) Utility
    https://www.thewindowsclub.com/smart-a-utility-for-tweaking-windows-7-vista-xp-services
    [IMG]
It can simply be downloaded and used as a portable application to customize your Windows services settings, to meet your requirements. for Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP has been updated to v 2.0.

You can always tweak your services manually individually but what this utility does is automate the entire process to give you the desired settings. Based on the recommendations of the BlackVipers Service Configuration Guide, the utility offers 3 sets of pre- configured tweaks :

    1. Safe
    2. Tweaked
    3. Advanced or BareBones

The utility has set the Presets to check for Service before applying Tweak. There is also a button to re-set services to Windows Default Settings.

Your hard disk is GPT formatted, but you can format it MBR way with another computer with W7, or with a bootable Linux Live DVD like Debian, or even better GParted [great Linux based bootable image disk manager]. But your GPT disk can be used with any OS. W7 and W8 support GPT disks!

[I recommend Rufus for making bootable USB sticks.]

The main difference is that a GPT formatted disk can support partitions bigger than 2TB.

I remember similar problem I had once, and I had to change a BIOS HD boot setting to "UEFI+AHCI" or similar so I can install W7. I might not remember it correctly now [red wine...lol], but playing with UEFI/AHCI/GPT/MBR BIOS boot options should make it work + repartitioning the drive first.

The problem is that booting from a partition bigger than 2TB can only be done in UEFI mode, and there might be some problems with W7 and UEFI. Anyway, I don't think UEFI is worth it. Stick to AHCI. I suggest you to reformat the HDD into partitions up to 2TB, or make the OS one smaller than 2TB and other partitions can be bigger than 2TB. Set the BIOS boot option to "UEFI+AHCI" or even better just "AHCI" [AHCI supports GPT disks], and off you go. :headbang:

Here's some info on GPT vs MBR. GPT has been with us for quite a while, actually.

Here's some info on how you can convert a GPT disk to MBR, but you don't actually need to do that. Just reformat it so the OS partition is not GPT and bigger than 2TB, and everything should be fine. That would be my first step before diving into BIOS options. Just use the tools I mentioned.

How you can tell your disk is GPT formatted. SevenForums is your friend.

    Cheers!

p.s. f**k so many mistakes... lol I had to edit it a couple of times.

They should rename the company to Macrosoft anyway, because there's nothing "micro" about their software, and then we could call it Macrosuck!

That really shouldn't concern us. For as long as you're not online with it and browsing *suspicious* [porn lol] websites with it, it should work just fine. And for as long as the hardware keeps working with it. So far all the modern hardware works just fine, no matter what Microshaft would like you to think.

During windows 7 installation, follow these steps to avoid creating the 200mb partition

    shift-f10

    Diskpart

    List disk

Select disk n (where n is the number that was given for your disk in List disk)

    Clean

    Create partition primary

    Format fs=ntfs quick

    Active

    Exit

    Exit

    Now continue 7 installation.

After you boot from win7 dvd welcome to windows installation appear you may press shift-f10 to bring forward cmdprompt

this partition store boot-loader, start-up recovery and system restore points- i not use recovery-restore- with this trick i simply see folder "Boot" which to contain BCD inside- +no hidden partition- this may not be trick for all but is my preference

here more discussion for you reading if please
