You are both right & wrong at the same time.

Hype generally works on those who think that having the latest & greatest will help them fit in or be more relevant in cliques or society in general.

I like the direction of Apple Silicon but, am in no hurry to jump on board until the platform has matured. The next offerings should provide "Pro" level performance with the Apple tax most likely being applied.

Weiss, SSL Native & Empirical Labs plugins are actually very well done compared to. Then there is the Softube Modular. What a Mono beast. Others deserve honorable mention but I think the point has been made here.

Is there hype? Yes
Are there gems to be discovered beyond the fog of hype? Yes

Totally agree, it created this "magic button/magic device" culture, where everybody are promoting some magic "analog" warmth etc...

Only scientific approach works, get Fabfilter, learn frequencies, learn compession, and get good sound, it will take you many years, but you'll get it if you work...

 

Maybe if governments didn't raise rents/cost of living so high real artists could survive making art

 

Totally agree: in a fair system, artists should be exempt from such trivialities as paying for rent, food, clothes, taxes ...

I know there is same "magic" in some of those classic emulations, but do the GUIs have to be such waste of space?

I agree, it's like placebo effect, I use analog and digital hardware instruments and effects, so I know what mean analog, particularly the limitations and imperfections of hardware, I have old 12bit sampler, and the sound change when he get warm, ITB you will never have this effects plugins maker speak about analog imperfections and non linearities but I never listen to a plugin who the sound change in some situations, cold to warm, wear & tear of components, for me plugins will stay always plugins, I don't say they are sterile, but a plugin will sound always the same for exemple if you mix or product music over a long period a time hardware sound can evolve a little bit so the sound change a little bit too, it's what is intersting, ITB you will never have this behavior, but I do use plugins, a few but I use them, I like very much Kush stuff, very good coded and souding plugins, so finally what I don't like in plugins world is plugins are frozen in time and they don't react to environment especially temperature, and I think dev need to take this into account, imho it will be an major evolution of this little world, lots of people get screwed with all these beautiful facades and all these magic words like the analog word, especially the young producers who have known only ITB music making or mixing.

Old skool brothers like me know what i'm speaking about.

Do not say it's stupidity, even it's sometimes stupidity. When you talk like that, you're saying "I'm the clever one and others are not". It may be a delusion for you. Be careful about that.

Let's say, people have weaknesses and marketing techniques work to use them. Sometimes we're tired, sometimes we got hurry and many times we want to trust other people. Because it's the easier way. I'm telling you these as a person who also bought useless products and as a seller who got some education(!) about marketing.
