    The SAFE Project

The SAFE Project is motivated by the lack of statistically-defined transferable semantic terms in music production and the requirement for more intuitive control of low-level parameters. One of the main outcomes of the project is a suite of DAW plug-ins that allow you to both save and load semantic terms from within the audio production workflow. This means you can now control your audio effect plug-ins using terms that normal human beings can understand! Just type a term (such as warm, bright, etc…) into the text-box, and if we have it on our server, your parameters will be moved around to represent this. Similarly, if you achieve an effect that can be explained in semantic terms, input it into the box and hit save. As the plug-ins are based on the music production community, the more users that input terms, the more representative the effects become for everyone else!

The SAFE Project is a suite of cross-platform DAW audio effect plug-ins. The plug-ins allow you to semantically annotate your sounds in the mix, whilst giving you access to a wealth of semantically useful pre-sets.

the plug-ins allow you to save and load parameter settings semantically, meaning you can type things like warm, fuzzy and bright into the text box and the computer will try and figure out what you mean!

Imagine if alot of users will input the word " FuUuUuUuUuUuUuK" multiple times into the compressor's box, i guess it will turn out as the sidechain pumping effect settings. :(

I tried both x86 and x64 in FL and it works fine.

The reverb I don't particularly like, the comp is quite clean, the distortion I like. I'm not sure how this semantics thing works. I tried that "bright" thing and it says nothing was found.

If you hit 'Save' it saves a preset on their server? I don't get it. What if there are multiple presets with the same name? And also how are you supposed to know what to type? Just go in and type random characters or words and hope to find a preset? Also, if it does work that way there is no way to guarantee or know if it actually does what it says in its title. But I guess it wouldn't hurt to try it either...

    Interesting concept anyhow.

Can anyone go intro the reverb and type Small Drum Room? Does it load it for you? It does for me. Just a test to see if it actually stored it for everyone.

As well as loading a preset.
What I don`t get is: No browser. The "Small Drum Room" worked for me, but... I made one with the same name and saved it on the server. It`s the only one I can recall, the first one is gone? Documentation is rather poor...
The concept is fancy, maybe there`s more to come.

Hm... There was also a Big Drum Room which I resaved but it didn't replace the original... It kept loading a different one.

Yeah, there should be a browser with a search where it would load the closest similar choices to what you're typing or something. This is too random. Whatevah.

    Hey all,

Nice to see some interest in our plug-ins.

We have just updated the loading interface. You are now presented with a list of the available descriptors rather than having to guess at what there might be.

Also there are Linux VSTs available now.

The latest versions are on our website www.semanticaudio.co.uk
