I presume it would be a team, not person!

And my opinion - I think that the extra bloat from the included instrument voices, should be a option to do so from the home site.
So it is a smaller application download, then the extra sounds as needed.

honestly. its a pretty bad update. they could have included some of the new features without a complete redesign.

It's a relearning job isn't it? I'm struggling to generate new ideas in minutes like I could with the older version.

I mostly used the Detect function and then went to the chord editing page from there, including modal interchange, and all of that has turned into extra clicks, too many different screens, it's a mess. I only used a fraction of version 2 and even less of 3 it seems. Maybe they'll streamline it in v4.

There's some cool stuff in Scaler 2 that's worth digging into IMO.

Yes Scaler 3 is a mind fuck. I'm hoping that Rapid Composer will allow midi key binding and be done with it.

There are lots of programs that get "overdeveloped" because their users, and especially reviewers; complain about/request things which are actually bad ideas and bloat. Getting rid of things after they are added never happens, even if it is junk.

After seeing all of the pre-release hype trailers I had mixed feelings.

It felt like they were trying to turn Scaler into a DAW/arrangement software, more than allowing it to do more complex MIDI and production things to complement the work we do in our DAWs.

I've rarely heard of people who want to use Scaler standalone, or do ALL of their production and arrangement work within Scaler.

Not sure what they were thinking.

I really haven't done much with Scaler 3 yet. I own it.. owned Scaler 2 before it. I am actually kinda not sure why I bought it, since Scaler 2 probably does all that I needed it to. I also was really unimpressed with the videos they put out showing the features they added.. most of them I was like "why did they add this.. who actually wants this thing to replace their DAW??"

I'll have to dig into it a bit deeper though and see if there's some stuff there that will make it worth having though.

Also, one last beef.. how many damn things do I need on my PC trying to scan for all my VSTs? lol

He's called Davide Carbone, an Aussie producer and artist.
It would be hard to fire him because he's the boss!

    Davide Carbone - Wikipedia

Scaler 3 has been released too early with too many bugs and too many half-developed ideas. The good news is that, as with Scaler 2, we can expect extensive ongoing developments and improvements to Scaler 3. Some of the complaints are coming from folks who use Scaler 2 live, which is a use case I had never considered (and maybe Davide didn't either...)

If the goal is to make music, these tools generate ideas quickly and will be suitable. But if the goal is to learn music, these tools are not particularly helpful. Unfortunately, today the goal is not learning, but production, so that people can quickly fill their own space with their products and become famous quickly.

You can read the full text. I chose the important words from the text:

... sound designer ... technologist ... audio and music publication ... TV, film, theatre, and video games ... DJ ... nightclub scene ... electronic music show ... techno group ... Future Sound ... acid house ... dance-music ... drum and bass ... dance singles ... sample pack ... Music Tech Magazine ... Fireworks show ... School of Synthesis ... Sound on Sound ... No wonder this person builds this tool.

The way I use Scaler (2) is pretty simple. I'm just experimenting with harmony and melody and when I find something interesting I chart it up, and then I move over to real instruments to develop the idea further, (e.g. electric & acoustic guitars, synths, bass, vocals, etc). Scaler 2 already has all the tools required to discover compatible chords that reside outside of a given scale, so it's a hard sell for me to rip up my workflow and start over again. However, I'm going to give Scaler 3 a go during my downtime and see how it goes!
