Just watched this. I've used this hit a kajillion times, and had no idea where it came from until today. Awesome! Anyone else know this?

    The original: (Hit at :24)

Yes, I knew it when it came out. I was a synth freak at that time lol
I was even invited to the private presentation of the first PPG that arrived to France...
Yamaha quickly jumped on this orch hit and resampled it to include kit into their drum machines. That was part of the success of the RX7.

Wow Oly, that's awesome! Would have loved to have played with a brand new PPG back then. I'm still a synth freak, and shocked I just learned about the origins of this hit. I've used "Igor's Hit" from the Ensoniq Mirage Library the most. It's a slowed down version of the original that has a woodwind rise at the beginning of the sampled hit. Yeah, I'm just floating in nostalgia tonight

The RX7 was my first (and only) drum machine. A very nice piece of hardware at the time.

Dont you think I was allowed to play the PPG. It was demoed to me into an air conditioned hyper clean room by a guy with cotton gloves :woot:
    Complete Sci-Fi ...
BTW: I discovered the Mirage, time later, in this exact same place.

I had a Sequential Circuits Drumtracks. Which had a Ying Yang symbol drawn on the inside circuitry.
You can have one for Ableton here

They were just looking after your health. The PPG was brought down by Grey Aliens, and they had just got it out of the UFO prior to the presentation. Could have been contaminated with Alien spawn cooties. :rofl:The Top Secret UFO documents that were released from project Blue Book say that PPG stands for Planetary Pulse Generator.

There’s an interesting, in-depth paper that tracks Orch5 from Stravinsky, through kraftwerk, to Afrika Bambaataa and beyond. I just requested the PDF from the author and I’ll upload it if he gets back to me soon. Can’t find the PDF on my drive or online.

I had an RX11 and totally loved it at the time. Curiously, I can't recall where/when it disappeared from my life... forever lost now in the mists of time i guess!

What was the actual recording used for that hit? I knew at one time, but lost the source.

Someone should score a short film with nothing but Orch5 and manipulations of it.

Pretty sure it’s a re-recorded and re-pitched sample of Stravinsky’s firebird suite, but the details are kind of crazy and I can’t recall them.

@9:05 on the first vid, Peter Vogel holds up the vinyl he sampled it off, so you can see the conductor and orchestra.
