At the end of the day the exact same thing can be said (times 1000) about the ginormously huge amount of "sample packs" released on a daily basis. I have DL'ed a few of these things over the years and save for a scant few most of these things are simply repackaging the same sampled shit over and over again.
Each new release can take you to the next level. Try before you buy man and when you can support the Devs. That GUI was a lot of work and with all the cool fx... the price is a little high
I thought the same thing until I tried it. Before you make a statement you should use it then judge it. I was rather surprised and enjoyed the sound on 3 different records I used it on across multiple tracks, busses and on the mixbus. I didn’t want to like it for other reasons (Ken Lewis himself) Flat out it’s really nice. The filters, the eq shifts, the 2 air bands, the distortion, the reverb even! I just used setting 3 on the reverb and not only did I feel like it fit the record perfect the artist told me that was the exact sound they wanted… I hate to like it b/c it looks like a toy.. but screw the look use your ears and you’re gonna be pleasantly pleased
they have released things before which looked "scammy", and some of them for that reason. The snake oil guy could just be hitting FWD on his emails. I'm not sure how you would even evaluate 10K+ of anything in music and not run into some serious junk.
They did "Voosteq Material Comp" (which is now on sale for 25$ instead of $150, lol) and when presented as a "pro audio tool" it's just as stupid looking as this thing.
Just so happens I actually did try it on some raw tracks where the effects can be truly compared as opposed to running these things on released tracks that are already mashed beyond recognition. What I found was - nothing unique, nothing compelling (certainly not for 149$). This thing was not going to replace a single plugin in my arsenal. The smattering of pedestrian stuff it offers - a "tone shaper", compressor, "brickwall limiter", audio "tilter", etc, are all functional but nothing to rave about and certainly not ground breaking. There is NOTHING offered physically or sonicly on "lolcomp" that would come close to surpassing any, waves, sonible, fabfilter, air, valhalla, eventide, etc, plugins already in use. I suppose if one was starting out with 0 plugins and needed a quick, mediocre, all-in-one solution and didn't know what else to grab this might suffice for a while. However given the $149 price tag, the absolute cheezy and un-intuitive interface, and the plethora of other similar more compelling offerings from other more established dev's this one is just more white noise in the sea. Which was what the original topic was about to begin with - the fact that there is so much mediocrity, and so many redundant offerings in the plugin world these days... Lolcomp was simply a readily available poster-child that illustrates the original point being made to a tee. Last edited: Aug 17, 2023
Are you gonna buy it now? If this was free plugin I doubt this thread would even exist, but this lol thing actually cost pretty buck, let's get that into equation now. So you found it useful, so much to pay retail price for it or keep using it as freebie? I dig God Particle too, bloody thing is living on my stereo buss, but still I can barely justify paying for asking price (I don't make money using it either, still, I'm using it), can you justify buying this thing? (You already made money with it, it payed itself I guess?) Last edited: Aug 17, 2023
the premise of the thread is not that this plugin is ugly. it is that teams should be putting out more great plugins, and that reversing this kind of junk takes up their valuable time. But that is not true. They break what they are supplied, with either real/retail programs and infoz or they use a demo version. They are not reversing Sonnox or Protools, or any of the most forever only requested programs and plugins, simply because they do not have time. And certainly not because they are "wasting time" with this "junk". These toy programs have toy protections. the only motivation to think about this is that people who always just want more stuff, and are never happy with what they do get. You see this all the time in comments where a releaser posts something new, and then without fail someone will ask about yet another unreleased program. In reality they do whatever they want, and no-one here is anybody else's boss.
Its certainly over priced, thats without question, 79 ok.. but 149, never. i personally didnt buy it and never would b/c i have a personal issue with ken lewis... does that mean it sucks, no the compressor itself sounds good and glues extremally well in a matter of seconds, then the additional features just give it a plus, do i always use it, no... ive only had it a week and used in 4 total songs. however all 4 songs never received a revision so thats great. if i wouldve bought the money wouldve been made back in 2rs or less but b/c whos behind it i wouldnt spend a single dollar... sorry im extremely honest lol i have every plugin you can think of on top of 160k worth of hardware. do i need this comp, by no means. was i able to get the same sound with other tools yea, but also by using 3-4 other plugins. the difference i often see when ppl compare things that theyre use to, usually have trash rooms, amature monitoring and lets not even discus converters...im really not one for the all in one type plugins, they limit too much as far as functionality lolcomp's awaken module on haze has a very analog like highend boost that doesnt get splashy whatsoever in the current daw world. actually sounds much better than the maag magnum-k with its airband. one thing i noticed is you definitely need to drive the input the reverb on 3 has been great for adding small room depth, can i get a better sound with actal reverb sure, but just simply adding a little with this works extremely well... but again, i wouldn't buy it for $149. outside of acoustica and uad i dont buy too many plugins anymore just b/c the days of running tdm in the psat i had over 8k invested in waves yet now they have plugins for $25 which is an insult to those of use that actually had to buy mercury in the hd/tdm world 10+ years ago. its a tool, nothing more nothin less... ive had charting records and gold plaques on my walls using cakewalk plugins lol... granted the sound came from my hardware and conversion but cheap ass cakewalk pro audio 6... not to many would admit to that but im no rookie and look a anything as a tool. is it going to replace unisom on y mix bus, nope.. can it replace my real sta level, retro 176, cl1b, 33609, distressor, tracker, fairchild(stam), dangerous compressor, hell even my old 747 that hasnt been used in 2 years, nope it cant but can it be an added tool in my arsonal absolutely. i just hate how ppl see a gui and automatically call is shit and they havent used or even understand how to use it. it without question is aimed at novice engineers and looks like a toy. I do like how there are no numbers and forces you to use your ears.but then i'll see a review with someone that has cheap ass rocket monitors in a spare bedroom and will say how something sounds great or horrible yet they wouldnt even know in that crap room with crap monitoring and consumer quality converters. granted we all started somewhere, i started in the same way however now have 3 real studios in a building and my homestudio along has over 200k invested into it,67k just to build and get right acoustically. at my house my 4 pair of monitors alone would be a nice car however i wont be swapping monitors ever. my son is getting interested in music production... well you have 200k worth of stuff downstairs, come down and learn b/c this equipment will be in my family after my death. If your point here is that I am somehow an idiot due to the fact that I call bullshit on all this garbage being released by dev's who are simply out to make a buck and could care less how they do it then, FUCK YOU! I already mentioned the fact that I did do some tests with this particular plugin above, and found it nothing more than mediocre at best. My audio gear has no issues in helping me make the determination that this plugin is simply pedestrian and no better than hundreds of other plugins released by dev's every day that have no unique or intrinsic value. If your gear is telling you something else then the onus for shitty audio playback equipment and/or failure to comprehend falls on your stupid ass. You sound like a bullshitter. On one hand you are spewing bullshit about how you've invested big $$$ in all this gear blah, blah blah, and yet on the other hand you are admittedly making money with a scene release which makes you an instant asshole. If you're the grand fromage that you say you are you should easily be able to afford $149 for this so-called "excellent" plugin as you put it...
Dude has a dog on his desk, uses Pro Tools and is a lefty. Clearly, he's Satan. So thanks, but no thanks.
Fantastic sounding compressor, whether you dislike the gimmickly look or not. I couldn't reproduce it's sound with other compressors!
It's really creepy how the eyes start rolling around and get all sinister when you minimize the VST host. wtf
