I actually want to impart a little wisdom on this thread: how to produce a successful EDM track (also, trap, D&B, whatever the fuck).

1) Open your copy of Fruity Loops (I know you have a copy of Fruity Loops) and start a new project.

2) Bust out an instance of VPS Avenger or Omnisphere.

3) Load your favorite patch. You know the one.

4) Hold down the "E" key for five long minutes and record the MIDI. You can also switch it up with "D" or "F". Does it matter?

5) You might think it's finished, but it's not. Now, bust out a .wav from "Crunk Grooves Vol. 1: 'Da Masta'". Loop it over the entire track. LOOP IT!!!

6) Also bust out a few drum loops. Doesn't matter where from.

7) Now find a few siren noises. Strategically place them anywhere.

8) Now for the mix. Move every fader all the way up. Anything that isn't all the way up is pretty much a write-off. You say you can't hear the bass? Time for a compressor plug! Shit, now the drums are drowned out. TWO MORE COMPRESSOR PLUGS, PLEASE!!! And an amp sim. If your teeth don't hurt, it's not a good mix!

9) Now for some of that sweet Soothe! If you're rich enough from your other EDM tracks, buy a copy of Soothe. Strap that mofo across the old mix bus. No more lame-ass manual notch filtering for you, Bob Clearmountain! If you can't afford Soothe, run upstairs to the living room real quick and ask your mom for her credit card. She'll give it to you.

10) Master with Lurssen Mastering Console. Fuck yes, you're gonna use the "EDM" setting! Don't bother tweaking the controls, either. Just let it ride.

11) Success! Post it on Soundcloud and then start a thread on your favorite audio forum, asking people what they think of your mix and get irrationally pissed off when they hate it. Fuck those guys!

I got a dumb question: how come, from 1985 until maybe 2010, the industry standard for a recording studio was "CD quality" ... then, from 2010 until the present, sounding like a CD was suddenly bad and everybody wanted to sound like the shitty old tape machines and record players they got rid of in 1985 again? Did Jack White grow up too poor to afford a CD player when he was a kid? Is that what this is all about?
