That's my thoughts.. I mean the look scratches the nostalgic itch.. but really if I wanted to play C64 games, I'd just grab an emulator for my current PC. I still think this thing is cool, but really it's a PC disguised as a C64, as you noted... which I'd expect anyways, but if you're aiming to emulate a C64, I'd probably be aiming a lot lower. Maybe more like The C64 Mini.

Got mine delivered this morning, didnt receive the ArcadeR Joystick with it though which I ordered at the same time.

The box was a lot heavier that I expected but looks fab.

Had a fair few all-nighters playing Speedball 2... Turrican 2 and Sensi Soccer. Will never forget my Amiga 1200 with dedicated monitor... happy, happy, days!

I only started learning computers in 1988 and started with IBM pc, so never got to the Commodore and frankly don't understand the hype. Maybe I missed something awesome. Don't know.

A friend of mine had a Commodore, but I couldn't get into it at all; it was incredibly boring and just not for me.
    I didn't buy Windows 95 until 1998.

In 1997, I had a C64, my friend had an Atari 1040ST, and another friend had a Nintendo 64. We used to swap computers for two weeks during the summer holidays, those were great times.

Just waiting for my "Gold Edition" to arrive. It seems to be very late por Xmas... but truly looking forward to it. I KNOW I don't need it at all.. and that's the nice thing about it. I still have the MIDI Steinberg cart and the PRO16 original MIDI program for it !!!
    Best regards

    C64 was my first computer.

Almost makes me wanna buy one, but I know that's just the nostalgia speaking :guru:

yes that exactly what this project tries to do, shamelessly exploits nostalgia while actually being just an emulator with a crazy price
I'm not even sure they wrote it themselves

@Synclavier Well, I don't know if it's an emulator, there's a SID inside and the hardware is 100% compatible with the original C64 hardware like floppy drives and cartridges.

ahh.. you'r right last time I read about it was less appealing, and the price was more than $800 now $299
its a FPGA emulation, Sid will be emulated too, if you haven't got the 6581/8580 chips
I was wrong, actually it's not that bad as I thought :)

jeez I now kind a want one :crazy:
and they have a grey version without LED silliness

Cmon. Please take some time to read the specs prior to say things not correct. It is an FPGA based system. The SID chip is also under this FPGA an you can have several of these at the same time. The board allow you to connect TWO real SID chips to it and disable the FPGA ones if you so desire. The board is compatible with all the old (classic) hardware (dirsk drives, tapes, cartridges, CRT monitors) and also you have USB and HDMI. It uses the c64 ULtimate board which is a long classic in the Retro arena.
