Of this you are 100% right.

I don't think anyone here is at all criticising you for posting - MQA is an interesting, novel approach to a technical problem.

Math certainly can apply to reality. However, you should note that the impressive-looking graph posted above is measured in millionths (10−6) of a second... have you personally heard/experienced MQA in action?

And there was me joking about you being Peter Craven's mum beforehand. :bleh:

I have no problem with technology or progress. Quite the opposite. My principal gripe is the marketing of a kind of 'progress' that is mainly beneficial for it's commercial sponsors i.e. Meridian, who are purely in it for the profit, nothing else. You only have to look at their uber-expensive, elitist hi-fi kit to see that. It's ironic that it was/is precisely their unwillingness to open-up the format for free application that has hindered MQAs adoption. As the idiom has it: "You reap what you sow"...

I am sorry, but I don't believe that any ad hominem arguments are a legitimate matter of a debate.
If you missed information from my previous post, it reads like this:
(Recent international research found out that the human auditory system can resolve transient timing information down to at least 8µs, (and possibly even 4µs.)
So, most probably I can hear it, as well as anybody else. If scientific measurements count, as they do. I can hear it in everyday life, all of the time, and I'd be happy to hear it at last from a sound reproduction system too.

So, from this i take it that you haven't actually personally auditioned MQA then?

FYI Meridian Audio imagine that £15,000 spent on one of their DACs or £48,000 for a pair of speakers is reasonable... The fact is, i'm not some overpaid city trader or billionaire oligarch, accordingly i'm entirely immune to their status-marketing BS. More to the point i personally am not at all interested in writing music for this kind of person either.

Incredible as it may sound, i'm very much enjoying some 'flawed' music recordings as i type this. I suspect therefore MQA will be forever wasted on plebs like me. Unfortunately for Meridian, people like me are Legion.

This approach is aimed at augmenting the apparent (relative) intensity profile of audio peaks, and at their even distribution, i.e. at providing that audio energy is not subjected to artificial ripples around peaks solely due to flawed technology. This re-distribution starts with untouched peak centre and producing continuous energy fall off to the edges (ends of tails). So it incurs some (harmful) gain loss, which can be compensated for easily.
So, in effect, this approach is improving the micro-dynamic range of audio systems input sources.
Especially, it can differentiate low-intensity peaks from higher, neighbouring ones, increasing the details (dynamic resolution enhancement), so it contributes to low energy transients unmasking too.
