Music piracy saved the music business.

The dogma at the bottom of this article is "hometaping is killing music" which is a by now scientifically falsified statement.

Apart from that it's a nice story.

This cracked me up: "Cassim did not admit to being a member of RNS, though two pieces of physical evidence suggested a connection to the group. One was a burned compact disk taken from his bedroom, containing a copy of Cassim’s résumé, on which, in the “Properties” tab, Microsoft Word had automatically included the name of the document’s author: Kali."

I shall never understand why people use MS office privately. As if the text they wrote in MS Word is more "professional" or somehow better? You can do the same with Abiword or any other free or cheap RTF text editor without having to pirate anything, and it can be read by any other RTF/DOC editor and MS Office, for that matter. *yes* And it won't write anything in the "properties" without you knowing it.

    Fun reading - thanks!

This feature "call up" old memories on how the so-called scene has developed (in some aspects) through the last few decades! The internet going from totally without any business to business all over the place!!

"Broke the Music business" ..... hmmm!!!!! Maybe the business, but definitely not the music!!!!

    Cheers

No, it freed music artist to do there own thing, piracy simply eliminated the major record labels (for the most part)

On the flip side, people somehow expect music to be free nowadays though, music on the web is a good thing for promotion only to get people to see you live, become fans and sell them merchandise etc...
