I decided to create this thread so every member who wishes to do so, can join and argue for or against Soothe. https://oeksound.com/plugins/soothe/

    soothe.png

Threads and discussions about Soothe are a very popular topic on this forum. Every other day we see a new thread being created, or posts all over the place with the same arguments from lovers and detractors. The interesting thing about this discussions is that some of the members on both sides have not even tried the demo and yet are opining as if they were power users. I have started by posting this detailed review. The interesting thing about this review is that the reviewer was not a fan of Soothe, and the exchanging of mail with the creator. n case you are wondering, I am a Soothe lover.

People who hate Soothe may never tried it and say things like "MSpectralDynamics can do it". No it cannot.

I love it because people get crazy since it isn't cr*cked. Lots of laughs.
I couldn't use it even if I had it, my PC is slow as f*ck.

Since I never tried it, I can neither hate or love it. But I'm sure if I'd love it I'd hate it.

Never even demo'd it so I'm option 3. I just find the craze concentrated to this site, maybe case they can't get it... Gonna check out MSpectralDynamics now.

I don't understand some reaction :dunno:

Soothe is a very good tool for cleaning resonances and which saves you time.
I bought it, I use it a lot and I love it.

However, you can also continue to clean up your resonances with an eq as before.

Little questions, why are you buying a washing machine ?
You can wash your clothes by hand !
Why are you using a stove to cook ?
You can also get firewood to cook, and save your money
    .....

But i understand, it's a very expensive plugin, and I waited for black friday to buy it, I recommend you to try it, you will not be disappointed

It is not concentrated on just this site. They have been talking about it all over the net. GIYF

Nice alternative to Sonible smartEQ 2, though not as intuitive as that.
That being said, there's a lot easier to love or hate than a VST plugin... :)

I bought Soothe when it first came out and like it a lot. Because it is adaptive it only takes out those nasty frequencies when they happen as opposed to manually sweeping through a sound and cutting bad frequencies permanenty and obviously cutting some good frequencies as well. A good test to see what it is doing is to listen only to the frequencies that are being removed (use the Delta button).

However there have been millions of records made over the decades that sound brilliant, probably down to the expertise of the producer/engineer, so Soothe is not a vital purchase.

If you can afford it you won't feel you have wasted your money. If you can't afford it then it's not the end of the world.

Fun Fact: Nasty frequencies which are not there can not be cut, metaphysically impossible. If you're talking about "start cutting X if X > -3dB," every dynamic EQ already does that.

Guys, wait for Soothe MKII, takes out all the nasty harmonics; feed it a saw, get a perfect sine back erry tiem!

i have not tried it, i dont really have a use for it, so i am mutual. it is interesting to see the results though. people are either mutual or love it, there are no haters. it might be worth trying just for that reason. maybe i could use it with my live work :woot:

    :rofl::rofl::rofl:

this is true, but filters will still cause phase shifts if they are not cutting any frequencies and can still be a potential problem for the signal, particularly in regards to summing back to other signals.

It is. We have become spoiled with all the W4rEz that is available. The downside of having too many options available for free, is that we don't have that urgency of "I better learn how to use this because I paid for it." As a result we failed to appreciate what some of these tools are capable of doing. Do we need 20 emulations of Pultec? Do we need 100 emulations of API? We don't but that is topic for another thread.

Sure, you can think of filters as phase shifters. Do this:
    1. Record two sines together, say a C & a D next to it.
    2. paste them in 2 tracks, zoom out so you can see the waveshape, like this: https://i.imgur.com/gvBxHJl.mp4 (audiosex won't embed imgur video. you might have to unmute to hear what's happening)
    3. drag one of the tracks (phase shift) to filter out C or D

Or you can just play a C 180 degrees out-of phase to filter it out. BTW, you can look at the tone knob on a guitar (just a pot and a cap, an RC filter -- as passive and analog as it gets) and LC filters as phase shifters too. Or "out-of-phase resonators."

Soothe 2 is even better than the first one. There is literally no plugin that can do what it does. Dynamic Spectrum Mapper is probably the closest thing to it imo.
