I replaced "guitar players" by learning how to play guitar.
To add to all the other instruments I play.
    Knowledge is power.
The grapes aren't sour if you can reach them, dear fox (Aesop).

I think transient-based (or envelope-based) multiband processing has still long way to go :chilling:

YourSnareSoundsLikeShit plugin could be a new game-changer :invision:

and that will be interesting, to see how much dumbed down the audience has become, and also what human composers will try to compete against,
I can imagine MIDI-based pattern generators driven by AI being a thing within months, but I don't think mixing plugins have any business potential in that regard

I'm not talking about stochastic or pre-trained MIDI note generators. I'm talking about physical modeling by AI. Would you like to hear an example? First of all, I think it is likely that in the near future, for example, the Unreal engine will be able to calculate the sound generated by manipulating or deforming objects, based on momentum, mass, density, and other material properties, in an approximately physically correct way and in real time. In combination with raytracing-audio and control variates this will become quite impressive. For a few years, sound designers will still be needed for adjustment, until someday someone will say: "Bye bye sound designers. We wish you all the best for your further career."

    [EDIT]
And what's the point of mixing plugins at all, if AI will eventually generate mastered compositions from noise? Just saying...

I am looking forward for the industry to stop catering only to the Pro market with hardware.
Large format mixers have been around for decades, none of that hardware even old stuff from the 1970's is affordable to the masses in 2023. This is also seen on the Pro Video side of the industry.
The pro market wants mass consumers to consumer their end product but not allowed to edit, produce and release it. This has been going on since the Movie industry got started along when Ampex got the stolen german patents by the USA government back in the 1940's. It was the USA government who actually started the Modern music industry in the USA as the magnetic tape patent stolen from Germany was given to Ampex for free. So basically the hardware in high end audio and video needs to be brought down massively as the tech inside these units is basically 20 year technology at this point.

Well, I was successful to build some Python code with GPT-3. Thus, it's not so useless. It depends on how you use it.
Actually, I also was skeptical about AI music, but since I listened to some demos from AIVA, it was shocking. The sound for free plan sucks, of course. Although I still prefer to create music by myself, it's shocking anyways.

I'm not talking about effect plugins, but talking about virtual instruments. Especially, guitars are still far from real sound even though some vsti sounds good.

I'm pretty certain we will have AI based "perfect snapshot of insert-grammy-winning-mixer-here's console!" plugins. A new generation of CLA plugins. Who doesn't get a boner?

On a more serious note, AI + additive synthesis is the future of all audio. With faster computers and more efficient machine learning, every imaginable sound can be recreated using additive synthesis. In a few years we'll look at Pianoteq same way we look at playboy.com for internet porn.

Everything that is necessary for instruments and effects has already been released, there's no real new surprises that you can't live without. the way I see it if one day AI can learn to play, compose and do anything and everything that a real musician can, what would be the need for musicians if computers can do it all.
If that happens then in order to earn a living, garbage collectors, dishwashers, fast food burger flipping may become your new chosen professions over joblessness

You could pay me 1/100,000 the cost of a Banksy to bring a paint spraying machine and I would even do the entire wall. "jingle huts" have existed for decades and they still aren't cranking out all the big hit records, are they? We pay more for "craft" worked things all the time. We will just have to beat a faster computer, instead of 5 people working on one song to crank out the same drivel. Half of this kind of "fear of new game-changing technology" myths are usually the developers of such "game-changing technology" which they are selling you on, or the "reporter" or blogger selling you clicks. it's self serving hype. :winker:

there is no longer anywhere to go until humans become genetically modified or become some kinda cybernetic organisms with advanced sensory inputs jacked directly into the brain in order to take advantage of whatever new shit that'd take visual and auditory experience to another level. sounds like a fukkin dystopia just waitin to happen to me, lol. right now i'm plugged in somewhere experiencing life on this shithole planet i'll bet

Are there any AI generators out there that can create good melodies? It seems the ones I've used are just random notes from a scale but real melody writing uses music theory - such as leading notes and dominant/sub dominant relationships. It isn't just throwing a couple of notes together randomly.

Artificial intelligence is a marketing idea from the USA. The software is not actually intelligent.
In the U.S., it was found that many users are crazy about AI, and wherever artificial intelligence is written on it, products can be sold increasingly well.

I'm still waiting in vain for a fully developed voice control for my PC.
---< User Beat16 >-- Switch to voice control: Boot PC - Call AudioSexPro - Log in - Load Studio One - Load Pigments VSTi - Load My FX....

There is nothing more "intelligent" in AI than HUMANS put in it.
Humans put their own intelligence into AI, nothing more.

That's why AI can already replace dumb ppl (like CNN journalists or Facebook censors) ... but not an air plane engineer.
Bullsh*t jobs are going to disappear like snow into the sun.

frankly Scaler 2 by Plugin Boutique can do kind of that, doesn't even need AI

What is the definition of intelligence?
The ability to know everything and be able to do everything? No.
It is the ability to acquire knowledge and skills and solve problems. That is the core competency of AI. AIs are intelligent. But they have only insular talents. Yet. They are only given certain tasks, and the information AIs have access to is pre-selected.

Example: GPT is a language model. Its core competence is language. Not mathematics, physics, art, or history. Since GPT did read books and publications of all these stuff, it has some general knowledge. If you ask GPT about something in which it is not knowledgeable, GPT will either tell you it doesn't know the answer, or GPT will hallucinate information. Hallucinating information, by the way, is something we humans do all the time. But its core domain is and always will be language. GPT doesn't understand any language absolutely perfectly, but who does? Now ask yourself if you can keep up with GPT in its core domain.

Another example: Create a virtual room with a castle. Now place two figures in this room and give an AI without any prior knowledge the possibility to control these figures and to physically interact with the virtual room. Now give the AI a task for each figure. The figures must each take the castle and defend it against the other figure. Then watch as the AI learns to move, learns its environment and its rules, and develops better and better solution strategies for its task. The AI does not need years, like humans, but days to be superior to humans in solving this task.

Another example: Look at what's happening in the film industry right now in terms of VFX. AI that can solve VFX tasks in a matter of hours that would take a mid-sized team of VFX artists weeks. And the results of the AI are far better and more realistic than those of the VFX artists. You're going to see a huge leap in the quality of VFX in the next few years, and you can be sure it wasn't a human.

Or how about this: you're sitting in the cinema watching an american movie with a german dub. The actors lip-synch perfectly. This is not due to good dubbing actors, but to an AI that has perfectly matched the actors' lip movements to the german dub. I have experienced this myself.
