  4. If we have an Audiosexual hang up by the lake on Friday night we'll all meet there around 6:30 to gather firewood for a half an hour, have some barbecue for dinner and then build us a fire. There will be acoustic guitars and basses, hand drums and didgeridoos, maybe a violin or two and of course I'll bring my harmonica. Because it was a kilometer walk through the forest to get to the lake, there is no electricity, so if we want to play some music it will have to be an all acoustic night.

I think the songs are probably written with the guitar in the music - it just doesn't make it past the producer's cut and then gets cut again in mixing. This is a corporate decision and has nothing to do with the kids making the music and since most of them are just one and done. they don't get a chance to enforce a vision or w/e once they take that check.

    Attention Charlie Put
That's a Jazz Bass Guitar a real one doing that solo)
    ( Radio Saturated Song - currently at #1 -

    Slow Hands Niall Horan
There is some sprinkling of guitar in the song, but the film show they guy with some pretty decent guitars - currently at #3 -

Despacito Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee Featuring Justin Bieber
Already mentioned, foreign language in US market - that J. Bieber is an icebreaker for penetration - currently at #8 -

Feel It Still Portugal. The Man
Not just guitar - a baritone saxophone (it is a throwback tune) the live versions have a lot more guitar [producer's cut] - currently at #13 -

I think the long Randy Rhoads / E VanHalen style solos were a bit played out by the mid 90s anyway. You still had Soundgarden / Tool / Korn, etc... I think part of the issue at hand is also pushing singles vs pushing the bands behind them. Ever since the supergroups like Led Zep, P Floyd, Kiss even the Frankies etc... record companies have been trying somewhat of cap on talent and revolving door as well. None of this has anything to do with the instruments or the choices artist ,ale. It is historically accurate as well, popular music has always been 98% shit with a few gems interspersed here and there every 5-10 years.

How much guitar music do you need? There's plenty enough recorded since the 60's I wouldn't care if there was no other guitar hero ever. Just like the age of the Crooner/Lute player/Violinist died. we got plenty. The heroes of the current generation press buttons, twiddle knobs or are autotuned and produced to f**k. I feel sorry for the kids apart from the ones who listen to old stuff.

With the fucking new vsts and fucking genres without any real instruments, our fucking guitars isn't used anymore in fucking new music. We reached from Satriani to Leewayne and from Mercury to Beiber

This was/is inevitable. Not only are more people gravitating to making music by or on computer, and with keyboards or other controllers attached, that means that fewer are defaulting to the guitar as the "gateway" instrument to music. Any reports on whether sales of drum kits are declining, for similar reasons? Anyone still learning to playing drums, rather than "making beats?" Hell, no one makes music, anymore - they "make beats." What else can be expected when people actually post on forums such as this one to inquire as to software come up with melodoes and even lyrics for them? Sell your souls to AI, and be done with it.

Personally, I'm relieved that the guitar is waning in musical culture. I'm sick of having to hear yet another four-piece guitar-based band bashing-out the same old riffs and licks. The whole rock-dude series of onstage poses, band-guys' posing for band-photos, and the old idea which is the rock band itself, to me range from ridiculous to sadly antiquated. The blues-rock revival of late was interesting to me for a while, but it's inevitably "cultural appropriation" gone weird or lame. I feel that not only have I somewhat outgrown a taste for guitar-rock, I also sense that our technology-altered society is leaning toward new sounds and sensibilities. It seems regressive or stunted to hang on to the guitar as preeminent musical weapon of choice. It's the 21st Century now; we're living in a sci-fi movie, so why feel silly by clinging to archaic residue of tradition? Unless it's a bunch of folks playing acoustic guitar, mandolin, banjo, accordion, et al. around a campfire – to which we musicians shall have to resort/revert once a solar flare takes out the electronic infrastructure – it seems natural that music-making tools would follow suit with the rest of society's technological evolution, albeit belatedly or stubbornly.

My family has (this year) gained a pretty good ukulele player, and a beginner violin / keyboardist. There's also me. But I still suck. >__>

I dunno, rly. Stringed instruments give you something that the piano (and all MIDI inputs) don't, which is your hands on the resonator. Bit like complaining that the human voice is sooooo monophonic and dated =)

Interesting point of view , but i not totaly agree ...
Orchestras were band in the past , even they're less used , lots of those instruments remains...

you can sample every sound and press a key to play them you're right ...
BUT YOU FORGET SOMETHING : The love of playing instruments

if you're not an old has-been musicien as me...
you'll never felt was is this to make a band and turn the note in harmonic ...or feel the power of a ampli-wall just behind you
you can hit a pad to play drums but i far prefere hit a real drum...

PC have simplified access to all instruments , ok everybody can't have a harp or drum or piano at home ...
i use trillian for bass cause i haven't a real but if i could i prefer playing bass , harp or drum in REAL.

digital has its limits especially in recording studio and mixing every pro have anolog gear ,
guitar software are amazing , Amplesound doing a great job i have some of their plugs , but i prefere record and play my own GTR parts.
and by chance gtr solo and brass are not perfectly emulated
music is like wearing , tentances spinning , and futur is a past in a new look ...
Bruno Mars , Adele , Amy Winehouse (rip), London gramar , Alabama Shake , Birdy etc...

Finaly lot of people like me dont want to go at a live and pay to see one guy on a mix table even i respect DJ's

  16. Then it might just be a time to start learning an instrument that doesn't depend on electricity to play (building one without power is another thing entirely if we would also need to fabricate the tools to create the instruments themselves, which would follow logical suite, eventually. Guitars and especially strings would become very expensive and rare if all of a sudden the lights went out for good) an acoustic instrument because whatever can happen generally does happen, and shit is begin to all happen at once, fore "The novelty of consciousness is coming soon to a theatre near you".

Don't be contumelious , all the music you listen is born by the old music
african percussions , gypsy music , classical music , slave songs etc ....
if you do not know where you come from , you don't know where you go ..

I think there are two points of view, emotional and business.

On the emotional side, almost all of us agree that it is frightening to imagine a music world without a guitar. My whole life I made music with synthesizers, but I listened to all music and especially like the talents on the guitars. Most music pieces done with electric gear like e-guitars, e-bass, etc., can be enjoyed in another form as well. I don't just mean the famous MTV unplugged concerts, but also electronic remixes of electric music. That's because their heart keeps intact over all transformations. A typical todays' electronic piece with drops and risers, modulations like hell and resampled grains of resampled water hose noise sounds impressive. But you can't transform it without losing its heart (if it has any). Whoever says he's hoping for the guitar to vanish, never realized the multifariousness of electric music. Electronic music doesn't even come close to it.

On the business side, even if the guitar vanishes as a mass product, that's not the end. It rather means chances. Chances as for these guys to make a living from their passion. And chances for the instrument itself. A violin, a piano, an upright bass - nothing vanished completely. They just got better and better.

    I don't get the point you're making.
Are you saying that people who can't pick up an acoustic instrument and play it are still musicians?
Sure, computer music people are writers or producers, but entering notes on a piano roll, no that's not really the definition of a musician.

But for this topic, I can't play guitar, but is it dead? Of course not.
Though I can't see a group around a camp fire in the wilderness banging out classics on an dead computer.
