"It was the biggest disaster in the history of the music business — and almost nobody knew. This is the story of the 2008 Universal fire."

And that's where I'm so glad I've never been able to release a single record. Its master tapes are safe and sound...

Notre Dame De Paris is nearly 800 freaking years old, many generations and countless Frenchmen lived and died during it's construction. And it will never be "restored" to it's original glory, as the knowledge of doing so has been lost to time. Kind of a disrespectful and shit comparison imo.

You don't know what you had 'til you lost it.
Sometimes you might find it down the back of the couch, but often times it's gone forever.
    Yep, this stuff's gone man.

UMG won't admit the loss. That would crash their stock if they told the truth about loosing so many assets in their portfolio.
Seems like the Securities and Exchange Commission could have party with this one.

This was a tragedy beyond belief, though my greatest fear for much of the known present day totality of knowledge is a scattering of magnetic pulses from nuclear devices that would destroy the vast amount of storage drives, servers and just about everything electronic. It would be an immediate and devastating blow to civilization. The building was in one location, a great storage warehouse of priceless treasures, this would obliterate almost everything and render out hardware retrieval systems useless.
